I was going to but the last minute flights were $1200. Next year I will book earlier for less than half the price or drive down with Tony and Nolan so we can share the driving, gas and hotels.

It wouldn't have made 'financial sense' for me to be there this year.

I plan to fly in next year.

I wish I could have made it....but I think a few things need to be considered in the next Nationals planning. I know the central goal of selecting the location (Kansas) is because its in the middle of the country, which is fine.

But the problem is that the majority of the fast trucks/attendees and majority of the active members on this board seem to live in the Midwest, Northeast and Florida area. This is quite the haul for people from Michigan, Ohio, PA, New Jersey, New York, or the Florida crew. Now, don't get me wrong I know that everyone wants to have NATS in their back yard, but this is a very long haul for many fast guys (Gerber, Waller, Badnewz, Hoover, Hess, Philip Long ect ect). In order to get the truck there in a timely manner, and enjoy the event, lots of time off needs to be requested, and there is a lot of driving involved (esp. when pulling a trailer).

I would have loved to be there, but I couldn't get the time off work...and I probably would have flown anyways...

I don't want anyone to get offended, but I am just stating the reasons, why I, and many others probably didn't make it.

Take it as a grain of salt, because I am not tryin to stir the pot ect....cause I wish I could have made it ....looks like you guys had a hell of a time!

For those of you that didn't make it to the Nats this year, you should consider coming up here for our smaller version of the Nats. I know it's too far for most of you to travel but it's much closer for those of you in the northwest.

It's a 3 day event, we should have close to 20 trucks as it stands right now. We race at a world class facility that host the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals.

If your interested just click the link in my sig!!!!! all the info is in the first post of the thread.

Re: Why didn't you come to Nats?

Now there's a damn good idea. I lived in Whistler for a year and look for every excuse I can find to make it back to Canada, and you just gave me one hell of an excuse!

I said "too expensive". By that, I mean that I couldn't afford to not be working. I am fully intending on driving my Ty there next year.

Cam and I damn near came.

I had a trailer lined up, tow rig almost ready to go and the Sy was waiting in storage for me to come get it.

Then the reality of a 28+ hour drive each way set in, plus the cost, all the crap around the house that needs to get done so I can sell it, sigh....

Oh well, there is always next year.

All you PNW folks should make the trip up here this year. I know there's a boatload of sytys around there, c'mon and represent.

:stupid: x100

I have been to 3 nats events.. 2 in BFE Kansas and 1 in Chitown.. My favorite Nats has to be the one in GB in 2001, (mainly because I had a running truck then and I drove away with 2 trophies).. However the "most attended nats" I have been to was in ChiTown 2002, however, there were alot more active members in Chitown at that time so that helped significantly.. (Most of these members are not nearly as active now as before)

I also dont want to start a war over this either.. Its been beat to death in the past (we've all heard the reasons for the location and I understand them completely !)

Re: Why didn't you come to Nats?

We talked about location a few different times this weekend.

Being from Chicago - it was awesome when it was here. The most difficult decision I had to make was if I should stay at home or the hotel :)

However, there is something about KC. I think the parking lot at the hotel is far better. I think the choices of food are better. Going to KC is like going back to where it all started. No matter what direction you move the Nats - it is going to screw someone else.

I don't know the answer. I wish I did. People have driven from SoCal to KC in previous years. People drove from the East coast to GB/KC.

I think the people who didn't show up need to speak up if they want to show. Most people have pretty legit excuses i.e. money, work...but those are only a handful of people. There are far more people here that didn't show.

Re: Why didn't you come to Nats?

Distance has always been an issue for me. Its almost 1500 miles and 24 hours of driving. That is a lot of driving in a Syclone. Its also a long distance, if I ever break my Sy drag racing. In the past I thought about getting my truck shipped, which is the easiest way to bring my Sy, but its also the most expensive. If I hadn't been unemployed for so long (9 months with little pay) or had a better paying job I would have done that. Also this year I didn't firm up permanent employment until early May (I originally had a temp postion until June 1)

In the past I have been against driving that far, but I am now starting to reconsider that. If I was to do 2x 12 hour days and stop over along the way it might be feasible. Or maybe I could rent a truck and trailer, but gas prices may make it cheaper to ship...

Me too. And my Ty was totalled the weekend before. And I had a 20 hour drive each way.
