What would you do???

Ok people just want some opinions.
Truth is I know no matter how much you drop into a car/truck you hardly if ever get your money back from it. So for me its not really an issue. Planning on keeping the car for a long while.
I'll be the first one to tell you I know sweet F##k all about the 4.3L other than the typical stuff I can read on the net. I've always had a soft spot for the syclone and Typhoon.

Ok my car has a 3.0L straight 6 that actually came with a turbo version. The motor is actuallya nissan rb30 just means it actually comes from the skyline. Back in 86 the turbo was pushing 150KW/200hp. Not too much but for the times and esp here in Oz that was pretty good for a six.Its very common here to see some of the VL's here pumping out 400-500 hp on stock bottom end. They are pretty bullit proof bottom end and super sweet to get done to handle more. (Keep in mind pumping that much power with stock part nothing will stay together very long) They are very reliable as well.
What I have noticed about these motors that they have no bottom end... even with the turbo still a bit sluggish off the line.

I was wondering is it possible to get a 400-450hp 4.3L turbo motor that can be reliable for everyday use and trips and stuff.
What would be a good price for something like this. Now keep in mind fellas I'm in Oz so reliablity is a must because I'm going to have to get parts shipped over when it breaks down.
Any insight would be greatly appreaciated.

Mike
Thanks for the response.
I thought of that as well but the problem with that is the VL never came with a 350 biggest I can go is 5.0L (308Holden )here. even that is has to be certified by an engineer to be road worthy.
Thats pretty costly here if they even feel like doing it.

Re: What would you do???

Maloo Ute is great ride even with IRS and traction control still hard to get all the grunt to the ground
I have a 83 Holden Ute as well my wife says to modify that..LOL
.
Just to give you an idea on how much a Monaro is a 2002 low mile/kays is about 37,000AUD
Maloo Ute 2001 is 36000 AUD

a new used 2006 HSV GTO is 75,000 AUD

You can easily pay close to 100,000 for a new GTO here. Convert that to USD thats about 75,000 hardly seems worth it.

I work on drilling rigs & one of the workers out here is from Perth just like you. He always brings me pictures of UTE's & Monaro's. He's trying to get me to move to Aus. Actually I have a job application in to go to work with Woodside Petroleum, but for their US operations.

If you look hard enough in the states you can get a New GTO for around $30k.

Re: What would you do???

Perth is beautiful....really much slower pace of life.
30K for the GTO would be great but in Western Australia the law is "if your car is 14 years or older you can leave the car as is, if car is newer then the car must be converted to right hand drive."
Conversion here that I have found and they might be cheaper but to get a engineers cert and road legal you have to spend atleast 25K
So nope not an option but a Typhoon would rock here
