Back into the storm!!!
Hello everyone! As the title states, I am a former owner of a '92 Ty - #1820, and looking to get back into the platform. I can't jump into another truck right away, as I need to pay off my current ride - an '07 Impala SS - before trying get to deal with payments on a loan for another vehicle. I will post pics of both my Impala and my former Ty...
A little bit about my last Ty: bought it back in 2002 for $5k with 198k on the clock. I had it for a little over 2 years, and at the time it was my daily driver. It was all stock except for the radio when I bought it, and I really didn't do anything to it as far as power mods or real goodies go. I did wind up doing a 3" cat-back exhaust with a Flowmaster 30 series muffler. I wound up finding an Oldsmobile Bravado grill and a set of headlight covers to transform the front end, a regular set of the Lund hood scoops to make the hood pop a little bit more, a set of euro tails for the back, along with a set of 16×8 '92 Camaro wheels to finish off the look I was going for. I also had a set of headlight covers for the stock GMC grill too, in case I wanted to put it back to stock for a change. Interior wise, I had a triple gauge a-pillar pod, loaded with a new boost/vacuum, intercooler water temp and air/fuel ratio guages. The Ty was the 2nd of 3 S/T-series trucks I owned - a '91 S10 Blazer 2-door 4.3L TBI, the '92 Ty, and last was a '92 S15 Jimmy 4-door 4.3L Vortec.
But due to a slew of bad circumstances (severe depression & a short hospitalization, separation from half of my family, lack of consistent work with good pay, etc...), and the Ty needing a complete overhaul (engine and body, transmission was rebuilt) and that was at least $15k I simply didn't have to put into it as I wish I could have. So I had to let it go, be able to get myself and my life back into a good spot again to be able to move forward.
But more than a decade later, things have turned around during 180° for me for the best. After 15+ years of fighting for it, I have landed my dream career as a heavy equipment operator for one of the largest waste collection, transfer and disposal companies in the US, had relocated twice to make it happen. I have a good ride for a change instead of older $500 throwaway junkers. And now that things are completely different and that another Typhoon won't be an everyday driver and more the Sunday/show/backup vehicle, it is time for me to jump on another truck. One that I can really put the money into, not let this one go, and have it to enjoy and love more than my Impala.
I will be frequenting the boards and picking everyone's brains as time goes on. So thanks for having me, and can't wait to get into a platform I have a bit of experience in and with again!
