Recommendations - tires for stockish sy

I have nittos on my stock sy but they are flatspotted (I think they are the 505s).

Any recomendations for tires on a stock sy?

Thanks!

What do you plan on doing with your SY? Drag race, auto cross, highway driving?

The flat spot in my syclone tires have gone away when I drive it.

Street driving only. It will prob never see a track but once a year. I'd like a wider tire than stock size as the stock sized nittos look small. Currently on 245/50.

Code what?
Look for some with a 300 tread wear rating. I usually buy from Tirerack and install myself. Kumho has a great tire for the money, I purchased the stock size in the ASX for 450$ from tirerack shipped. Came with a 50$ Visa card on a promo. I circuit race, drag race and daily drive on these tires and they have done great. Keep them rotated, my first year circuit racing I surprised how well they did wet/dry.

If he can install his own tires, I'm sure he can rotate his tires himself too.

You're an annoying little twerp. What does rotating the tires have to do with what wheels they are on? You have to dismount and remount the tires because of the wheels, and most tires are directional so you can't swap side to side, but so what? He suggested rotating the TIRES, not the wheels.

You can't ruffle my feathers davep......:headbange

I run kumho tires on my Ty...great bang for the buck...are pretty decent in winter if ya drive in the winter with it also I might add...I run corvette tires in the summer...they are continental extreme D/w I think tread wear is 300...but grip quit well. I read alot about tires before I pull the trigger....go with what you like or think will work....that's what I've done and found out what tires are good for burnouts...what ones flat spot and wear faster etc..

Re: Recommendations - tires for stockish sy

There are not many tire sizes you can "go up to" in 16". There are a few options for 245-45-16 & 255-50-16. 255-45-16 are not available says tirerack.com. You'll have more available tire options with the factory size.
Another option is store your factory 16" & buy a set of aftermarket 17" or 18" wheels.
I run 255-45-17 (Kumho Ecsta ASX all season Treadware 420 Traction AA) on my race setup, previously my all around setup.
20" (Pirelli P-Zero Treadware 220 Traction AA) for car show & putting around town.

Here is a picture of the truck with 265 size tires. They are the Kumho XS tire which have great traction.. There is around 9-10 inches tread contact width.

My bro told me I should ride around with the cladding off..like the last picture...:rotf:

Re: Recommendations - tires for stockish sy

There was a few tires I had line up in my sights with my truck and stock wheels. My first and only thought was..Traction. I could care less about how fast the tires wear. buying a 180-200 wear tire does not concern me at all. Getting the right traction being able to hook and book is what counts to me. My truck is seldomly driven so whats it matter?

They make the Toyo Drag TQ which is the tire I was going to go with before I chose the Kumho XS... Toyo makes it in a 255-265-275 x-45-50.

Toyo Also has the R888 which is a very nice tire and can be found in various widths. I was going to go with the R888 but I did not like how it did not have a reinforced side wall. The r888 looks like it could be a wrinkle wall style if heated up and all under load. It just has a super gummy surface for traction.

One of the members on here is running the Toyo Drag TQ on his truck in 275 size tire. After I seen and spoke to him about his tire setup I knew what I wanted to do could be done. Just finding the right person to do the work Since I do not own a tire machine yet.

Really? How well could that work since stock wheels are 16". I would think those 17" tires would probably fall off!
meant my vette wagon wheels....jesus...alittle jumpy are we....I'm gonna run 275 coming up on the 17' wagon wheels just haven't decided on the brand...maybe some Firestones.....maybe some yokohamas. ..or some hankooks....I'll keep you posted when I pull the trigger.

Federal 595 SS, I love them. Or if you have the extra money, go with BFG KDWS.
