rear disk brake swap

my rear end is at one of the local rear end shops getting built, i couldnt find an 8.5 out of a newer s10 so im gonna have to make my own. So im thinking, while im spending much to much money on everything here why dont i do rear disk brakes too. Has anybody looked into this at all? I have a rear end from a 89 GTA with the large 11.5"ish rear rotors. they would look sweet on the back of my truck. They are shortening my 8.5" housing anyways so it should be no big deal making the flange work with some f-body brakes right? What do you all think? anybody got any ideas? Obviuosly the proportioning valve is different so do i just need to change that to one out of an gta and will my master cylinder be the same? They were all 10.5" front rotors anyways, well 99% of them.

I need some opinions please.

IMO since youre getting all that work done then having the shop weld on the axle ends for the DB would be worth it. I dunno if the axle tubes are the same. It might be a cut, weld, and youre done. Then again it may be cheaper to scavenge a late model Bravada rear and have em use those brakes.

A lot of the pontiacs and a fewcamaros with the perf engine (like the GTA) had the DB but they were the Australian "9 bolt". They had weird ratios and such (like 3:27s instead of 3:23s) and none of the internal parts would interchange with the reg 7.5 10 bolt.

Anyway, Id take a close look and see if the axle tubes/backing plates will work on the 8.5. If so Id have em put them on.

Just my .02

ps. What truck did ya get the 8.5 out of? Why are you having to narrow it? If youre tubbing/mini tubbing it then I understand.

the rear end that i have is a 9bolt but im not using any of the guts out of it so i dont care, all i want off of it is the brakes. The 8.5 that i am using is out of some older camaro. so it is much to wide. I will just take the disk rear end in there and tell him to see what he can do.

hey guys,
I just bolted '95 F-body rear disk brakes on my Ty. The four bolt flange on the backing plate is the same as that on the F-body. I'm not worried about the ABS sensors, so the only things are the E-brake cables don't match, and the prportioning valve question. At this point all four wheels lock at the same time, but I want to try it without the front propshaft installed.
My interests are Road Racing(as in Roadcoarse, Not on the way to work)so I have a 13" C4 vette rotor,C5 caliper swap planned for the front. I'll set up the brake bias after the fronts are done.
The C4/C5 fronts work well on my One Lap Firebird Formula, I'll let you know on a heavier truck.
