problem with water pump

Re: problem with water pump

The pumps "look" the same as far as I've ever seen. I suppose he could also be wrapping the belt around the pulleys backwards but I doubt the belt would fit. Also air in the system on first fill can be a PITA, Gotta run the motor till the stat opens and watch the rad. Amazing how far it can go down sometimes.

Can anyone provide me with a picture or a drawing of pulleys & belt drive installed?

Re: problem with water pump

Under the crank pulley (groove against groove), over the water pump (smooth pulley against "back" of belt), Under PS pump (groove against groove again), over alt (grooves again), under tensioner, over AC, over idler, back to crank.

The "trick" if you want to call it that is the belt comes around and up over the crank pulley on the drivers side then under the WP going up and over on the pas side of that pulley. The belt makes an "S" as it goes around those two pulleys.

Re: problem with water pump

thanks wheels for the help thanka alot

guy checked the typhoon today

1: there's no thermostat so no need to remove it
2: i checked the lower hose it's new and nothing wrong with it
3: about the electric fans its not working coz the radiator never gets hot
4: temp sensor is ok i gues

but .... when i open the upper hose which comes from the engine to the radiator i open it from the radiator side and we start the engine on idle for 10 min
the water should comes from the hose but it doesn't

could it be the cylinder head gasket ?? i installed comitic on it from RPM

Re: problem with water pump

it sure sounds like your lower hose is plugged or your pump is broken and not spinning the impeller or an older pump that spins in the wrong direction. i'd suggest a new pump.

Re: problem with water pump

the pump with belt routing. the passanger side of the belt wraps from the harmonic balancer to the driverside and over the top of the water pump back to the passanger side with the smooth side on the pump

Re: problem with water pump

I don't have a water pump here, or I'd do this:

Remove the back cover. I think you can see the vanes on the impellor. (If not, forget it). If so, take a pic and post it. The Butcher can do the same, (remove pump and cover) and compare vanes for direction.

i'll try to take some pics today

Re: problem with water pump

with the 4.3 block you can run forward or reverse pump, just have to make sure it is turning the right way. Might be the head gasket. pressure test time.

Re: problem with water pump

Can't tell from original post but if the rad is full and he's not pushing water out or making bubbles the head gasket is probably OK. Not always because they can leak only under load but he doesn't seem to have that problem.

I'm starting to think of off-the-wall things like plugged block due to bad water/rust. Been awhile but I have seen it. Has the intake been off? Gaskets in backwards?

maybe the gaskets in backwards and i don't thinks its because of the rust or something coz the engine has been rebuild and cleaned am confused i will take some pictures but i don't time

Re: problem with water pump

is it a new radiator or the old one? have you got some blanks in the radiator tubes like when it comes from the factory all sealed up or anything?
