Potentially helpful info for Lil Brodies

Re: Potentially helpful info for Lil Brodies

have you screwed plugs in with the stock manifolds on?

also, have you surfaced the bottom of the valve covers?

Haven't screwed in a spark plug yet but it does look like it will work.

Valve covers haven't really been touched yet, still need to add a bung for a catch can so that will be addressed soon

Place has been pretty dead so here's a small update. Got my oil pan from Stef's just to find out that it doesn't have the oil drain fitting so I'm getting that added this week.

This will get rid of my problem with the dipstick and add a little more oil capacity, not to mention it looks pretty badass

More helpful info.

I run -8 Lil Brodies. When i was checking valvetrain geometry, i wasnt happy with that the heads hit the intake pushrods.

Brodix heads have a offset intake runner, like most aftermarket heads. This means the intake runner is cast wider than stock. This allows for a larger intake path. but it also means that the intake pushrods do not align with stock centered lifters.

To clear the pushrods, you need either offset rocker arms, or offset lifters. I decided to go with the rocker arms. I contacted Jesel in New Jersey about a set of shaft-mounted rocker arms. They have rocker sets for most aftermarket heads, including V6 23deg, and V6 Bowtie canted & 18deg. Their standard rocker assembly for 23deg heads already has the intake rockers offset 0.250". Which reassures me that my measurements were correct, and the intake is offset 1/4". They also offer custom rocker sets with any offset you want.

So i use a set of Jesel Sportsman rocker arms part# KPS-01103 My pushrods clear the heads, and the rockers are shaft mounted, so there's no deflection.

Brandon, whats the deal with Surfacing the Valve covers??

sorry, i missed this post. Fabricated flanges usually warp during welding, especially a continuous weld. When you get the valve covers, the mating surface on the bottom is probably warped a little. If you sand the flange flat, you will get a better gasket seal.

I know many will argue and say these trucks have went 10s blah blah without headers. But I can tell you there is a difference for sure. If you do go with them wrap or coat them for sure.

Got a 10an fitting on both my pan and valve covers and am starting to get some more parts together. After some reading on here it looks like an autolite 3934 or NGK 4554 is the recommended plug for these heads and a turbo application.

I would caution you not to use a non-resistor plug. They can cause ignition noise with the ECU.

I've had decent luck with the 4644. Running 14psi, 9:1cr on pump gas for regular driving. I tried 8s, but i fouled them too often. The 7s seem to work good for my road driving.

Re: Potentially helpful info for Lil Brodies

I already forgot which plugs I went with but we are still making progress, below is how she sits currently. I now realize just how shitty the exterior is on this truck so I guess that will be looked at next.

I have discovered that I am not the only one running lil brodies with the stock manifolds. I wouldn't really recommend doing it unless you get some work done to the passenger side manifold. There is a lip in the casting that i would recommend having removed, that and have a machine shop mill down the surface that is below where the spark plug will be sitting. Also look into getting one of these, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pow-pow301150/overview/ it's a little pricey but is definitely a very helpful tool to have on these tight manifolds.

Re: Potentially helpful info for Lil Brodies

Also, you can't really tell here but the Stef's pan is pretty cool and the clearance between that and the front diff is super tight, probably doesn't need to be said but make sure you have solid motor mounts. And due to the location of the dipstick tube I guess my dip stick will be accessible through the passenger front wheel well.

Re: Potentially helpful info for Lil Brodies

Still getting there, DP fitment took some time. I don't think it was because of the heads, just the condition that I bought it in. Just need to find a spot to mount the holley, install the JSM 3 link and it will be ready to fire up finally.

Hello, I can’t see from the pics (Photobucket) - are these heads angle plug? I am looking at using some brodies I have on a bow tie build. Thank you 🙏
