Well, after being a huge SyTy fan for 15 years.... and racing one for someone else through the early 90's... ( John Uyeyama - Oakland Ca... 91 Syclone.... 12.70's at 108...) I finall bought my own... a 1992 Typhoon... basically stock, with few mods... always stored inside... Gorgeous!!! White/Graphite cladding... Love it.....

So now I just want reliable, basic mods.... maybe get to the 13.0's..... any advice??? I see alot of you prefer the Ultimate chip, .... please reply with any advice... and if youre in the Phoenix are, email me!! ProstreetMike@aol.com

Many of you will know mw from the West Coast... NorCal... SuperStreet, usually drove a 10 or 11 second street car.... always fun, always smiling....

Re: New Ty owner in AZ... Awesome site!!

welcome.
Ultimate or Phill long chip is what most of us run. I would start with the basic mods. Replace the hard lines to the IC with 3/4 hose. Look at adding a trans cooler and remote filter to keep the trans happy. 3bar map and chip will alow you to boost up a bit. Also going to 50# injectors, AFPR and fuel pump will help out. Get a datamaster to help with the truck. Exhaust too. then there is Alky...
There are so many things to do to uor trucks.
I would start with the 3/4 lines and exhaust.
here's some good reading. http://www.sportmachines.com/maintenance_tips.php

The truck has a walbro fuel pump and the intercooler lines and pump are upgraded.... so what exhaust is the best for the $$?? I see a few injector upgrades.... 30#, 36#, 50#, and what kind of improvements can I expect from these few basic changes??? Im leaning toward Exhaust, chip, and injectors.... PLEASE, anyone with advice, Write!!! Thanks- Mike

Re: New Ty owner in AZ... Awesome site!!

Get a laptop and download a datamaster program. Then you need a datamaster cable to connect to your truck. Very easy to do. This will tell you just about what every thing your truck is doing.
Cheap laptop 100-400$
program is free for first 20 tests
Cable is 50$
you might need a usb to serial port if your laptop has no usb. about 20$

To run a 3 bar setup you need a Chip (phil long or ultimate) 300-400 I think
3 bar map sensor 50$
and injectors to match. 50's should be good 300$

all this you can find here. check the vendors. someone here sells the injectors for cheap.

As said before you should be in the low 13's on a good tune.

Re: New Ty owner in AZ... Awesome site!!

our truck come with 33's. Stock trucks push the 33's as is. 50's are the best way to go. good for up to 450hp-500hp or so. Plus 50 chips are more common.

Re: New Ty owner in AZ... Awesome site!!

My sy had a hypertech chip in it when I bought it. I didn't have very good luck with it. kinda reminded me of the kenne bell chip. I would stay with the stocker before I would run either of those 2. My :2cents:
I personally like Phil longs chips  .
I used to live in phoenix and there are a couple good guys from the board there that I used to pal around with. Madpsi and nick?????? I would maybe hook up with them since they are close they have been around the block a few times, they can get you a chip burnt for your truck and your mods.
Good luck and hope you like your new ride.

Re: New Ty owner in AZ... Awesome site!!

For cheap I would just go to the exhaust shop and get a stainless 3 inch thrown on. Otherwise atr makes awesome exhaust decently priced. You have to have some back pressure or you will get boost spikes (no boost control) so I'd keep the cat on at least.

There's just too much information that I'd like to share with you to do it via typing. If you can get the chance we need to arrange a meeting at the Pavilions car show (Indian Bend & the 101 in Scottsdale) on any Saturday night. If you can find a date that's good for you then I can try to rally the troops and we can discuss everything you want to know (and a crapload you probably don't want to know)... ;)

For your reference, the local Phoenix-area AZ SyTy nutcases are myself, Dan (PPI Typhoon) and Nick (nick041881).

Looking forward to meeting with you...
