well, I think this "guy" was blowing smoke up your butt.
Not to say everyone cant think what they want, but here is my breakdown of it.

The SSR comes with some pansy 5.3L V8, and RWD. I have a hard time thinking they are gonna make a I-6 AWD version of a V8 RWD truck.

Syclones are GMC, I dont think GM would remake a truck and stick it under Chevy's nameplate, thats just wrong.

The SSR has its own "retro" theme going to it. GM is would have a hard time selling a Sy2 as a blast from the past retro-rod.

Well don't know i found a website that takes a s-10 body and builds it similar to the SSR man i would love to buy in the futur a wrecked syclone with intact frame send that to them have them fit their custom coilovers to it and and the decals of SYCLONECONCEPT
If I find the web address again I'll post it here so people can look at their site cause these kits do look badass...One thing is for sure I would only do it to a Syclone with a scared (I think thats right) title!!!

I did hear new from a very reputable source that a twin-turbo Vortec 4200 inline 6 is going to go into something in 2004. I really hope it doesn't go into that SSR though... I'd be first on the list if it's a Sonoma...

I remember reading in Road & Track or Motor Trend (who can tell the difference?) about a year ago that GM was planning to turbocharge an in-line five.... yes, I said "five."

Team that with AWD in a minitruck and you got me on the list....

GM TURBO

Well, I am still waiting to see anything good from GM. They have some OK concept shit - personally I think the SSR is awfully ugly. Dodge started the retro-crap. Ford followed them and now GM is following that. Why not create something NEW!!!

What I am saying is it is a trend. I know sales are based on trends. The market deals in trends. By the time GM finally comes out with the SSR - the trend will be over. 5 years ago - Hunter Green was the HOT color. Every other car on the street was hunter green. How many hunter green cars do you see on the lots now? Trend. 5 years - done. PT Cruiser - came out in '99??? It's lifespan isn't going to be much longer. Couple more years?? 2003 SSR if it ever happens - couple years - done. After the trend is done - resale takes a shit - cars have no value. Not that the manufacturer gives a rat's ass about the resale value but then it is time to move on to something else. What I am saying is why doesn't GM maybe start a trend instead of follow it.

Kinda optimistic about this being a GREAT truck/car/roadster/SUV/El Camino

Well, I will wait until I actually see one on the road. Chevy has said they are going to produce it. On http://www.chevrolet.com/ssr/ they can't give any details. It is going to be a V8. Uh, ok. The 454SS was a BB V8 - that isn't saying anything. It is going to be RWD. That is all they can tell me. They can't even say what color I can get one in. Maybe Hunter Green  For a car that will go into production in 2002 they aren't giving a lot of details. It doesn't matter really. I will wait in my happy little hole to see when it actually happens and if it is worth all the hype. I am not saying it needs to be faster than a Ty for me to be happy. I might even be impressed with a high 15 second 1/4 mile time.

Because the "retro-crap" as you put it, is selling like crazy!!!
Sales = $$$$$$ Crapy or not.

yeah, thats great, but the Syclone isnt retro. its a fuckin box GM produced for 14 years.

Prowler: followed the '32 hi-boy bodystyle
PT Cruiser: Followed traditional 30's sedan bodystyle
SSR: Follows '53 chevy pickup body style.

if they try and make a true retro syclone, ... well, there is only so many ways to shape a box. I dont think the SSR is the next Syclone platform
