more boost

yesterday I made a granger valve and set it at 7lbs.... (ive been keeping it @ 5lbs)
It was cool in the morning and the engine was warmed up but not hot
On my first boost run it peaked at 10lbs (oops) at 2500 in 2nd gear and I
got side ways...
I backed out of it slowly.. gathered it up and shifted into 3rd and got
side ways again at 2500 rpm even though I was being careful !

I tried one more run but it was so hot and the timing was being pulled out so much it was dangerous so I set it back to 5 lbs and called it a day

i love boost

Re: more boost

You are going to need some very sticky tires.
Are there any electronic boost controlers that control boost in relation to the gear you are in or maybe vehicle speed?

edit
How big wheels and tires can you put on the back of those cars? Can you get like a 15x10 wheel on it?

Re: more boost

The blitz SBC-id has options to control boost by MPH....however sadly it is uber expensive....I hear it works nice though......

I bet that thing is a handfull when under boost. 2600lbs and 400+ft-lbs :D

i will eventually set up a file in promgrammer with boost based on mph or something

i have 225/50/16s which are pretty much bald...
the hot setup is a 245/45/17.... but with too much tire im worried about breaking stuff...

Re: more boost

Dig did a mph scalar substitute for WG control back in the day. It's integrated into every version of PG that I've seen. His reasoning was to soften boost spikes on the shift, but it could be used for what you're doing quite nicely.

Just a thought.

There's actually two parts to it... last I looked, PG only did the init DC part.
You can set the desired boost to be MPH based as well.

Basically, this would let you have 3-4 psi up to 60 MPH or so, then crank it up.

A set of Mickey Thompson drag radials would be a heckuva lot more fun....

It'd be a fun car to build crazy... 1000 HP bowtie motor, big sticky meats...
