Long Trip Syclone

Aeroking

e.i.
I'm purchasing a Syclone by the end of the week. If i drive it home, it will be about a 1,800 mile drive. Can the truck hold together, and what should i watch for when driving it a great distance.

BTW, the truck has ultra low miles, so mechanical overuse probably isnt a factor.

Re: Long Trip Syclone

over 30 trucks were driven that far this weekend. Only a couple had any concerning issues. It all depends on THIS truck and what reliability mods have been done, and how well its been maintained really. In general it should be ok for 1800 miles.

I say rent a u-haul car trailer as to not put unnecessary miles on your Syclone, not to mention saving yourself the trouble of some unforseen circumstance.....and as Ian said to check the fluids and hoses....do you know mechanically if there is anything wrong with it? Just my 2 cents worth

Re: Long Trip Syclone

I did 900 miles on a 42k truck that had filthy oil, bad ball joints, original plugs/wires, a weak battery, and badly worn tires (I was so Syched about getting a truck, I forgot to check these things. All have been fixed now.). And the truck ran great! But you should look these things over at the very least.

Check coolant and oil hoses. Make sure they are pliable and not leaking. If possible, carry spare hoses and some tools. Rubber ages with time, not just usage. Check fluids and put in a clean air filter...a cheapie is fine until you can get a K&N...as long as it's clean.

Good luck and have fun. Get out and stretch once in a while because sitting upright for that long can be tough.

Or skip all this till you get home and do as Chromy says; trailer it. Then drive it to SE PA in October for Turbo 6 day!! ;)

I dont recall the actual milage, but I drove my 113,000 mile truck homke from ok city to houston texas. only concern I had while driving it home was the sloppy steering. My wife couldn't drive it because it was all over the road for her. fun trip though, even had a chance encounter for a race or two on the way. good luck with you new truck.

I drove my 104K mile Sy home from Chandler, AZ to Austin, TX w/ zero issues. On the long flat jaunt across the desolate part of TX, even managed 22-23 MPG. Like everyone has said, double-check all fluids & maybe p/u a basic tool set & jumper cables etc. for the drive back just in case.

I drove my truck to Florida and back and averaged 24 mpg at 70 mph... I thought it was a fluke due to the 17 mpg factory rating. It did not like the heat though.

Re: Long Trip Syclone

Though it may be tempting, DONT pound on it if there is any concern of reliability. Most things usually break under the pressure of boost/torque. Get it home and then break it when you have some buddies to help you get it home.

Just my nickle.

Re: Long Trip Syclone

I think the answer to your question has to do with your comfort level....<such as>
1. do you have AAA or such (if broke down)? Remember, full service stations dont exist anymore,
so your on your own for tire repair, overheating, alternator problems etc.
2. are you driving the interstates (where lots of construction, gravel roads, cones, etc) exist?
3. is your insurance company informed (if stolen, damaged by accident - whether hail or vehicle caused)?
4. is collectable/prestine condition a requirement (verus cleaning underneath, road grime, bugs
tar, stone chips, etc)
5. does the vehicle have recent maintenace records (fluids, brakes, cooling, tuning, tranny, tires, etc)?
6. are you driving alone, on a deadline, on backroads for extended times?
7. do you have the necessary funds (either way, if broken down while driving, or to trailer or ship)?
8. are you planning on modifying the vehicle when delivered (and thus remove parts that you
wont/dont care about keeping prestine)
9 are you driving so-called "drug" routes, where police presence is/can be a problem
(especially if you look like a terrorist, foreigner, or prison-inmate with tatoos)?
10 do you have the vacation time, charge cards, and time-off to enjoy the trip

Re: Long Trip Syclone

I just drove my truck down the WA, OR, CA coast a couple months ago. I had about 200 lbs of extra weight in it. And I don't usually do anything close to the speed limit on two lane highways, which includes me squealing the front tires around most of the corners. Unfortunately, I only averaged about 15-16 mpg because of it.

It's just like any car, really. It all depends on how well it's been taken care of.
