Later Model GM Deck?

I've been through several threads, but haven't seen a definitive answer to this. Is there a later model GM 1.5 din radio that will work in our stock location? Like a 6 disc changer for instance. :) I'm ok with having to heat up and modify the defrost duct and buying a wiring adapter. Anyone done this or know of one that will work?

Re: Later Model GM Deck?

not without some work.

The chassis of older 1.5 DIN radios like ours is different from the later 90's /early 2000's 1.5 DIN radios. The brackets that hold our radios in place have nowhere to bolt on to the later radios, so a custom mounting solution will need to be created.

Also the radio harness is different, which is not a huge deal. Just have to get a Metra 70-1677-1 and wire it to a 71-1858.

The antenna end is different as well. Our trucks have the standard size motorola antenna end at the radio. After 94 I think, GM went to the mini-motorola end. A Metra 40-GM21 will take care of that.

You should be able to use most GM 1.5 DIN radios up to 2001-2002 or so. After that they went to the CAN-BUS radio turn on.

Re: Later Model GM Deck?

Exactly the info I needed. Thank you! Has anyone accomplished this? I'm interested to see how the mounting was done.

Re: Later Model GM Deck?

I ran a 2000 S10 deck with a changer in my 94 S10 for years. The plugs on all GM radios were identical up until they went to a 2 din radio (2002ish). The only issue you may have is the actual bezel and mounting. Mounting might be tricky, but unlike my 94, the syty trucks (square body dimes) had side mounts as well (newer trucks mounted on the side)

Edited for accuracy
