Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

Ok, so I'l make this as simple as my writing skills permit. I've receantly upgraded my brakes to a Hydroboost system that was bought from a member here on Syty.net. I wanted to add in about my install since i have aftermarket headers that are from Race Proven Motors. Clearance issue with the high pressure line behind the powresteering pump and the header was the main reason for this post.
As alot of you know the high pressure line off the power steering pump is a very tight turn that is very close to the stock headers, well aparently it is Extreemly close to aftermarket headers, pimarily at the header/crossover pipe section. Being a larger diamiter of pipe appears to make this all the tighter fit.
Well I've come up with a new way to route the line from the powersteering pump to the hydroboost unit, that's the hard one to run out of the three. All while using the stock line to do it with. At least I think it's new, hope I'm not reposting what others know.
During my time putting it together I finaly realized that if I take the stock (high pressure) line from the power steering pump off and STRAIGHTEN the medal line out, I realize I can run the line straight out the back of the pump, through the opening between the header pipe and block, straight back to the firewall, 90* up and over to the input of the Hydroboost unit. You may need to see the photos to understand. This does to things, one, makes it very easy to make the line fit in that emensly tight spot, and two, hides that partiucar line from sight. It is a little tricky getting the pump and bracket and line installed but after a couple minutes you'll understand the sequence of loosening and tightning in the proper order to get it all mounted or unmounted should you need to.
I sure hope this made sense. If not check out the photos.

Update....................................................................
I decided to ditch the stock line and have a custom steel braided line in place of the high pressure line that comes off of the steering pump to the hydroboost unit, ALSO I decided to add a heat shield over the hose that is so close to the header collector on the drivers side. I just used a spark plug wire heat shield, sliped right over. Here are the pics with the new hose. Same routing, straight back and up the fire wall. Far away from any issues as you can see.

Re: Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

if you would have flipped the booster and had the lines onthe bottom side it would have worked alot easier.
still looks good tho

No problems were found at the booster, all my problems were at the power steering pump. The booster was a cynch. Plus if I did that I would have had to criss cross the high pressure lines, not that it would of been a big deal but just more to deal with.

guys this mod is one of the best and cheapest u can do.i can hold 15 psi at the line forever and the truck dosent even move, and only need to just touch the pedal

if your even going down the road at 50 and hit the breaks all four will lock right up.

dean be careful that the hard line dosent rub on the head or headbolt and put a hole in it,or u are going to have a mess and a fire,

Thanks cloneman, I am a bit perinoid of this system, but once the truck is up and running I'll be very maticulas and go over everything many times over to look for issues, what you see in the pics is not the final step, since I have a crossover pipe leak I haven't permanently bolted and secured everything in place, I'll be looking specificaly for rubbing issues. One good thing is since I have solid motor mounts their should be zero engine movent which should help, but I'll be checking these lines out every day for the next month or so. I'm paranoid of loosing my brakes. ;)

Re: Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

dean i really appreciate the thread. i have mike's headers and have been contimplating how i was going run the high pressure line as mine is actually touching the collector/v-band clamp.

wonder if it should be a sticky?

Re: Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

Was, or is there enough room to go straight up from the pump with a 90 degree, and the tubing go across the valve cover and back into the unit? (Some braided line would probably look, and work the best for that..)

If nothing else, I know you could route it the same way, and do a tight bend in the stock line and run it up over. The lines coming out of my Z28 at the pump are the tightest 90 degrees ever. It'd keep it away from the headers all together with though.. :dunno:

There is enough room to put a 90* on the back , if the line is hooked up before installing the pump . I was able to run that line down and under the drivers header towards the firewall , then up to the hydroboost unit .

Re: Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

I figured the braided line would match the rest of his engine. Might actually not look that bad either. But I knew there was some way you could get a 90 back there.

so you 90 straight down towards the ground? I found it very easy to simply go straight out the back of the pump under the headers to the firewall. I guess that 90 will work with aftermarket headers but just seemed like such a pain to get it all turned just right and all.

Re: Hydroboost with Aftermarket Headers

FYI UPDATE, removed the stock line and substituted with steel braided custom line, same routing just new line, didn't like the bends I put on the stock one. PICS added on first page.
