Hot Team Race Invitation (AZ)

Hello SyTy.net,

I'm John and I run HTR, a local charity / race program here in Phoenix.
I am contacting you fine gentelman with an invitation to particpate in the 2005 HTR season that runs from January until June.

This invitation is for January 9th at SpeedWorld in Whittman AZ, just north of Phoenix. If you are interested I would need to know by early December. To make this work we need 5 Syclone or Typhoon trucks to commit with reasonalbe certainty and maybe one extra as a back up.

If this is a go, you will be competing against 5 Dodge Dakotas. These types of matches are ususally built up on various web forums long before the match.(you will all be famous ) In other words, you will know the truck number you matched to race ahead of time.

The only cost to you as particpants, is normal track entry on test and tune night which is (I think) $18.00.
This competition is a friendly (And we insist on that) heads up format, not bracket racing. Heads up racing is certainly not everyones cup of tea but the folks that volunteer to make this free program work hope you will join us. It is a blast to compete with like era/modle vehicles on a team.

I look forward to working with you.
If you have questions please post here or contact me direct.

Also, here is a forum that you can read some of this years earlier activity between some local trucks to get a feel for the program.

Thanks and have a great day.

>>>Wrong forum for us Az guys . I just happen to check here but it needs to go in the Western forum. I'm sure one of the mods could move it for you. But it sounds cool. What kind of times are these Dakotas running? In our group theres 3 Sy's (2 not working) and 2 Ty's (1 just in a fender bender). There's a few more around the valley but aren't apart of the board.
<<<

ThaJokr,
I'll answer your question here so I don't encourage activity on my wrong posting in the other thread.
Participants in this program are required to be faster than 16.0 seconds and no vehicle contigency/aftermarket stickers other than on the glass. The Dakota guys seem to range from 15's to maybe one or two getting right at the 12 sec mark.

Also, I just got an e-mail unrelated to this posting from a guy with a supercharged blazer that said he is willing to help out the GM team as needed. My reply was that the Syc and Ty have first choice at open spots but I thought it was great that you may have some other local GM trucks to fill in if needed. So, if needed we may expand this out to GM trucks in general if we're short on the 5 Syc and Ty.

This will be the first time we have introduced GM trucks and I think it is going to add a bit of excitement. I also think there will be a lot of interest in the match ups as this all develops.

I don't think this is going to happen... Start expanding now.

You're going to be hard pressed to find 5-6 running AZ SyTys on such short notice.

I'd like to do it, but Brandon's right, it's gonna be hard to find that many trucks running and willing. You could probably get Dan and Robbie to do it too, but I think thats about it from here. Maybe Trevor or Billy will come up from Tucson. Maybe you could find a few other trucks from here that aren't on the board. I know there's quite a few around.

Yeah, mine was the one in the fender bender, but as long as I don't blow anything up, I'll bring the truck to the event. So I'm one of those "with reasonable certainty".

We're probably gonna need that Blazer :D . But at least there's already 2 of us wanting to do it.

Great!
I'll post back here as things develop and the schedule is finalized for next year.

If your interested you can also go here and find your vehicle performance index. We use this sometimes to pair up vehicles for the race.
http://www.outrunu.com/Tech.html

Also, you can go here anytime before the race and sign up. After filling out the form your vehicle will show up on the GM Team listing page with your new permanente vehicle number. It takes about a day or two for the number to show up. All racers are required to sign up and display the same basic data about their vehicle before racing.

I have two more ideas as well. There was a chevy truck that was posting some good times. And then there is steve and this mid 12s white typhoon with the sticker flames. I think most of the dakotas are faster than ours, but it still would be fun to race.

Who's this Steve guy? I have a friend with a Silverado that would probably be down with it too. He's hopin to have his slicks by then so he could hopefully hook.

Steve is a guy with a white 92 typhoon with sticker outline of flames. He used to go with me to the track. He has had some engine work done at Arizona speed and marine. He usually posts mid 12s on his quarter mile at Speedworld. The little chevy truck was posting about the same if I remember right. Just throw some cladding on that thing and we'll call it a syclone. :D

Arizona Cyc/Ty Race on Jan 9th

Arizona Cyc/Ty Race on Jan 9th

Ok, its set.
The race will be on January 9th at SpeedWorld on a Sunday.

Boy, you guys weren't kidding... I've asked around trying to line up a few more turbo trucks and no one seems to know what the hell I am talking about. I didn't realize they were that rare.

Anyway, here is the line up.

1st Event: Jan 9th @ Speedworld (Sunday)
GM vs Ford
GM vs Mopar

You will be teaming up with a team of 5 Buick GN's.
These guys are going to be, I guess we will say, running interference for the new turbo truck participants (you guys). They are going to compete against the strongest Fords and Mopars. So as long as your truck is faster than 16.0 your good to go. The GN guys have their ducks in a row, they are a good group. So, 10 GM vehicles competing agains 5 mopars and 5 Fords.

JOkr and AZTY,
I need you guys to go here and get your vehicle listed. Just fill out the form and submit it. You will get a vehicle number in about 2 days.
http://www.outrunu.com/SignUp.html

After that, get a score for your vehicle performance level. Go here and click on Performance Index. Score the sheet and post your results.
http://www.outrunu.com/Tech.html

After that I will post your vehicle numbers on the HTR web forum along with the GN guys as they come in. In the weeks to come discussions will start up about your trucks. If you are good with the final pairing, you Ok it and its set. You show up in Jan with the rest of the GM gys and race your match.

Lastly, is it even possible that we can find a total of five supercharged or turbo charged trucks to complete a team of 5? I do not know but maybe something will come up before Jan.

Good luck guys, this is gonna be a cool line up with a bunch of 3.8's taking on big motor cars.

With me, AZTY, PPI TYPHOON, that guy Steve, and the SC blazer we should be good to go. No real commitments yet though. All of us are just saying we would like to do it (Not sure about Steve).

Yes, and I should have made that a bit clearer that when you go to the sign up page and fill out your vehicle registration you are not committing to anything, you are just becoming eligible to compete for the season and it will open up the discussion about your vehicle on our forum for matches.

The advantage of getting your vehicle number and truck signed up early is that you will have more options as to who you agree to race against.

I am not actually on the GM team but I am the program coordinator and I work to get all teams and new participants settled in as comfortably as possible. If there is anything I can help with just holler. Also, I think you will find the GN guys an interesting source of info if you have not already had the oportunity to chat with them about how they mod their cars.

Welcome and good luck. :D

Great, should work out good. Once the word gets out the open spots go pretty quickly. I am currently posting a list of any vehicles that are possibles for this race on our web forum as they come in.

Roberto,
The lady that volunteered to do our video work in the past can not make it to the track we now use. However, I do expect that by the time the race comes around we will hopefully find someone that can capture the races on video.

Here are some other videos of a few of this seasons matches. This video was not done by us but rather another web forum member that was there helping us out.

http://www.outrunu.com/2004June19Biggie.html

Scroll down and click on video to get to their web site. Some of the video is a bit fuzzy and unstable. You are looking at Dakotas vs Lightnings earlier this year. Few if any of these trucks will be at this event. Those faster trucks typically won't show up until the lightning/Dak match comes up.

I think this match will be another one of the all time best., it'll be worth video tape. I think we are gonna have a good show here. I'm really interested to see who comes out of the woodwork as this thing unfolds.

I just signed up. I roughly looked at the performance index.......and I think I'm around 21 or something. Depends on how much boost I run.

MadPSI,
Excellent, Thank you.

Our last video sub guy was not sober so we basically got lots of video of the sky and various women walking by. :rotf:
