Harnessing the beast

Part of all swap decisions should be based on the ECM harness. After
personally owning an old stock Fiero, for the first 3 years, I was always
replacing sensor fittings and wire, so I got pretty good at soldering, heat
shrinking, taping, and split loom (and locating extra harnesses to get
correct colored wires)

The first real harness I did was converting my carbed 4.3 monster motor
to TBI (toilet bowl indigestion). I only needed to really add about 5
wires and the knock sens system but it took 3 hrs !

Then came the CPI motor and 1 huge bundle of wires ! It was at this
point I decided that if I was going to spend all this time, I should tidy,
reroute and hide the wires as much as possible I kept thinking Umbilical
cord with long flowing branches. I ended up finishing in 2 hrs !

Swappers take Note
The 95/95 4.3 CPI V6 Van firewall plug is the same as the Fiero's but carries
about 50% more wires.... Perfect for any swap and gauges etc. safely
through the firewall

Wire can bend and move but hard lines and fuel lines can't move as easily
so I do them 1st. I have always love doing hard vacuum and fuel lines because
with a little forethought, cheap bender, a tape-measure and knowing
THE TRICK. I can route them any anywhere

The Syclone ECM and harness will be a snap... NOT !
The firewall plugs are different, so... ½ hr labeling all the in car wires,
½ hr labeling the new ECM wires, 15 mins labeling the engine bay side
(it helps when the sens plugs are are still attached!).

Now I can get creative. !

Re: Harnessing the beast

That is a badass swap:tup: what have you done to the suspension? Is it faster/ just as fast as a syty?

Re: Harnessing the beast

before the turbo set up, just running the CPI setup, it ran a 14.3 @ 95mph.
At 10psi it gets loose at 3000 rpm in 2nd and 3rd
unfortunatly i never got a chance to take the turbo setup to the strip
before moving everything in to the 87 GT... which is still underway lol
