Back into the storm!!!
Hey everybody,

So after being at a car show this weekend, one of the attendees mentions that one of the guys who puts the show together happens to have one he might let go of. Here are the details of this truck and the current situations regarding pulling this off...

*as stated in the title, it is a '93 Ty, truck #1618. Truck has been sitting on a trailer for the last 2 years at least, and has not run since then. Was told that it did run, and that the motor and Trans were rebuilt, but was also told by the owner that someone told him that there was metal in the oil. Either way, I am going to play it safe and say that the motor is no good and will need a complete rebuild.
*Because the truck has been sitting for so long, it is badly going to waste. At least 1 fender and 1 quarter panel are rotted, and there is major rot on the roof that starts from the edge of the rear hatch window, going a quarter of the way up the roof towards the front of the truck. There is also rust forming on everything else to a bad degree from neglecting the truck for so long. So the body and frame I would not trust on the thing at all. Which in turn, brings me to the next issue:...
*PARTS!!! After looking at the truck kinda quickly and being disappointed that it was in such sad shape, I did notice that it does still have a LOT of good parts on it that were salvageable. Such parts include: - all 4 wheels, -12 out of the 14 cladding pieces are good (left rear cladding is missing, right rear piece is there, but cracked at the top going about half way down...), -interior (seats and F&R panels...) appeared to be in good shape still, -dash looked good, no cracks or major issues...

bad news & bad parts: -center floor console broken at hinge for armrest, center shift lever button broken/missing, mold starting to grow on top front edge of headliner due to rotting roof. I am sure there is more, but didn't check it out too much closers than what I had.

Now here is where I need everyone's input... As it sits right now, I don't have the cash to buy it. The owner is asking $5k, but in the shape it's in I am going to try and offer $2500 for it, and he would have to get it towed to my place. **IF** - and IF being the key word here - he accepts the $2500 offer and I can get a loan from the bank to get it, I am looking to know who needs what for their truck for Typhoon-specific parts???

I have posted this same "feeler" on this group's Facebook page, and have gotten hits on the following parts:
*Complete cladding kit - the 12 good pieces left on the truck. Would also let the cladding go per individual piece if the interested person fails to come thru for the whole kit...
*Front Bumper Support
*Engine, ECM & harness
*Transfer Case, adaptor & brace
*Interior - F&R panels, and I would guess both front and rear seats. I have another person interested in I would have to guess just the front seats, but may take both F&R, depending on condition...

So I would need to know who is interested in getting parts for their truck IF I were to be able to pull this off??? Buyers MUST be serious about wanting said parts, because I really Can not afford to buy this parts truck and keep it all for myself right now. Mind you, I HAVE thought about doing just that, and keeping all the lasts for my future truck should something happen... But my initial thought was to help other fellow SyTy owners out with offers to buy authentic, genuine Typhoon parts rather than let it go to waste and wind up in a junk yard, awaiting the crusher...

So if your interested and seriously want to buy parts for your Ty, post up here and list what your looking for. If I get enough interest and would be worth it for me to try and move on this truck, then I will. So, are you willing to help save as much as possible from a Ty before it gets scrapped???

Thanks fellas!

I almost bought this truck.

Black/black. Roof rack. Rust @ the rear mega.

Edit* I notice its 93, I checked I almost bought 1992 1618. The truck was located in NY, I still have pics of it and the guys # it was a 518 #. Who knows if its the same truck..92-93?

This truck is awesome!!
Re: FEELER: MIGHT be getting a truck to part out - '93 Ty, #1618...

Is it worth buying the truck? I think it's hard to get parts sold and then ship them off.It really seems to me it may not be a great idea.If you are counting on guys to buy parts a lot of tire kickers on this site sometimes.

IF being the key word here - he accepts the $2500 offer and I can get a loan from the bank to get it,

Are you f-ing kidding me?

You're contemplating taking out a loan to pay too much (2,500 is way too much for a non-running Ty with major rust issues) for a rotted carcass that has MAYBE $1,000 of saleable parts on it that you expect to sell to people that have no money, tend not to follow through on interest-to-buy, and still aren't happy if they get the parts for nothing? There's 6 pieces of cladding that have real value, and this pile is missing two of them, the corners. Bumpers have value, but the supports are probably rotted. Things like the center caps (not the wheels themselves), seats, interior parts have value, but are difficult to ship, condition (mold) sounds dubious, and again, no one will pay much for them because peeps looking for these items are seeking better condition than the ones they currently have.

And face it, you have a credibility problem. You're a noob. People on here have been around the block a few times, and will be reluctant to do deals with you until you establish some favorable history. Facebook is a ghetto. Good luck with anybody over there. Bunch of hood-rats with no money, unless you accept EBT.

Walk away from this deal. You're going to loose your ass. The description sounds to me like it isn't worth the gas in the tow vehicle to haul it to the land fill. You can't afford to part it out. You don't have any money to buy it with either, so it's a non-starter. Not gonna' happen.

It jtook me more words to come to the same conclusion as Jimmy did, but I agree:

Oh, Hell No!

Nope, definitely a '93. The seats/interior and the overhead console gave it away when I looked at it. But yes, the truck IS in NY, and I could only imagine that the guy's number starts with the 518 area code. And yes, mega rusted rear section of the truck. Roof is the worst I have ever seen, but the truck as a whole is just about roached body and frame wise... could very well be the same truck and guy. He told me it was a '92 also, until I saw it first hand and realized it was really a '93.

Is it worth buying the truck? I think it's hard to get parts sold and then ship them off.It really seems to me it may not be a great idea.If you are counting on guys to buy parts a lot of tire kickers on this site sometimes.

That is one of the things I have taken into consideration, as well as the ability to even take out a loan to get it to begin with - IF.COM he even accepts the offer of $2500 for it... I have thought about buying it and keeping all the parts for myself -the cladding alone would be worth it - but I am not in a position to be another $2500 in the hole right now either... went and looked at it hoping it was going g to be better than what it was, and was severely disheartened to see how bad it really was.

If I wasn't still paying off my Impala right now, I would already be in talks with someone to buy a truck - a good one that needs next to nothing but a new owner. I would even consider taking out the extra for this one just for the parts for myself IF the situation was right. But it's not sadly. And the ONLY way I would jump on this right now would be if enough serious parties were interested in buying stuff off of it. It breaks my heart to see and know the thing is sitting there going to waste, and would like to see other fellow owners make use of what good it has left to offer from it.

Well, can't blame a guy from trying... I would have thought I would have been doing something right by attempting to part it out. But I see your point(s), and they are very much valid ones. And it is also something I have given a lot of thought to over the last 24 hours since seeing the truck, and my first thought was the same exact thing - "No way.."

Well, at least I made what seemed like a valid attempt to try and salvage one... But your right. It's not worth it for one this bad. Better off just waiting until I am ready, and just buy one that needs next to nothing to have, drive and enjoy. Thank you for your input.

Your right it was a 1993. I was mistaken.

I recall some ATR stuff that's about it. Headers/intercooler/intake.

Sorry for what I would have thought was a good thing in trying to save what was left of the thing before it wound up in a crusher...

Hmmm, that's real mature of you to have to resort to name calling... what are we, still in 2nd grade???

You really are dense. The only reason I was saying it was stupid is because you wanted to go borrow the $ to buy it. What are you, stupid?

I would have if I knew that most of it would have sold, OR if I could have gotten it and saved everything else that was good on it for myself. But since I can't afford to take on another loan right now, and trying to ship a lot of the bigger stuff would be extremely difficult, it is just not worth it to attempt it.

I had been seriously debating and thinking of every possible angle of the whole situation before trying to jump on it. And it's not the right time, definitely not worth the money and definitely not the right truck - even if it would have been to strip for parts.

But since this is not the one to try and move on, I am still at square one - planning, investigating and saving for not only the right truck to take out a loan on, but to also get all the things I will want for mine when I do take it home. And with that being the case, I still have 2 years to be able to do all of that and then some with. So dense and stupid, no. Actually the furthest thing from.

It's a feeler thread... Sounds like you should move on to another truck, why would you be investigating and searching for the right truck for you then buying other trucks to pull the parts off for the right truck for you? Just buy a good truck that runs great the first time out of the gate, will save a lot of time and headache. They are for sale all the time.

Re: FEELER: MIGHT be getting a truck to part out - '93 Ty, #1618...

Apparently so... again, would have thought others may have been interested in whatever off the thing rather than letting a rotting shell of a Ty go to the bone yard and get scrapped and crushed... won't be doing that again, that's for damn sure.

Again, the intention would have been to get this one for what I thought would have been worth it for the parts, strip and sell the vast majority of the stuff from it, with the sale of the parts paying for the truck and putting a little bit in my pocket. And since I have a few years before I can actually take out a substantial loan for a good truck, I thought about doing this with this one, and using it not only as a part out, but as the experience to tear apart one of these to know how to do the work myself.

Now obviously since this wasn't the case, nor can I ideally afford to take on any kind of loan for any amount, along with the fact that this obviously isn't the truck to move on at all for any reason, it is obviously not going to happen now. Which again, leaves me in my original situation of planning and getting myself set up for the right truck to move on when I am done paying for my current vehicle. One that - as you, I and others have said -needs next to nothing g but to get in it, turn the key, drive and enjoy it. That was my original intention, and still is since this one obviously isn't the right one to even consider thinking of moving on.
