brake pad movement

i put front pads on my ty few days after i purchased it, the old ones were really worn and noisy. since then the pedal has felt kind of mushy (it did before the pads anyways) and they smell like they have been getting overheated for the last few days. i pulled off a tire today to see if i can diagnose anything and noticed the outer pad has quite a bit of movement, maybe 1/16 to 1/8". i cant hear any rattle while driving but it rocks back and forth in the caliper on both sides. the inner pad does not move. Is this normal? could this be the cause or are they just crappy pads (duralast gold from autozone)? any help is appreciated. the difference in the movement is in the pic.

Re: brake pad movement

You're suppose to bend those tabs to make the pad fit tight. Doesn't anybody ever read a manual before doing something if done wrong, could cost them, their life?

I just checked mine and saw it wasn't tight . I read that you could wedge a screwdriver between the bottom of the pad and rotor hub and use a punch to tap the tab tight to the caliper. It worked great.

No slide lube on any of the slides from what I see... did you blow the fluid back up to the master or open the bleeder valves when pushing g the pistons back in ?

What do you like out of curiosity? I tend to use never-seize.
