block question

syclone #968
well since the comp. in #6 cyl. is not up to par with the rest. I want to build another motor for my truck. The thing is I dont want to tare what I have out until I have some thing ready to go back in. So the question is. Is their any thing better about my syclone block than any other 4.3 none balance shaft block? I plan to have 4 bolt mains done with a steel crank and eagel rods.

Re: block question

FWIW, my motor is losing bearings. I plan on getting a working 4.3 balance shaft motor an doing the intake mod for the vortecs. I plan on using an 01+ motor for its LS1 style valve train. All you need to do is make sure it has a 4x4 oil pan and tune it for the higher compression it comes with. Just a thought.

Re: block question

To answer your question, no. They are the same block.

Loosing compression, what's causing it? Do you know? If its something as simple as broken ring land, find out how bad the cylinder walls are. They might still have the cross hatching still and won't need a hone/bore. If that's the case you only need new bearings, pistons and rings to put it back to running. Or you can upgrade rods while your in there. And do a 4 bolt main.

Don't missunderstand my simple answers. This can be a simple, very fast rebuild. Or it can cost you thousands if you get carried away.

You need to sit down and figure out what you want in tbr future with your truck. Because if you were wanting a rebuild to make it stronger and faster. You have the chance to do it once and not 3 times. If you just want a mostly stock truck. Then just fix what's wrong. Jmo
