Stolen from Fesslers/murfreesboro road area either saturday night or sunday before 6pm.
Was spotted on nolensville road yesterday afternoon around 630pm.
HOW I FOUND OUT
I was in my weekly meeting at the main dealership and got a call from our lot on my phone. Didn't answer it as I figured it was a customer there bitching. So then I got a text from one of my employees saying to call them ASAP. I called the lot and they informed me it had been stolen and that METRO PD was at the shop (right down the street from the dealership) and needed me to get over there.
So I show up and METRO is there, and the first words out of my mouth are "ARE YOU F'ING PUNKING ME FIRST THING ON A MONDAY!". The head mechanic and owner of the shop walk up. The head mechanic saying over and over again "Man, I am so sorry!" I thought he was going to start freakin crying or something. Anyways, what happened was they hot wired one of the other vehicles they had there, an old Toyota Land Cruiser, and used it to bust down a big ass gate. Left the Land Cruiser there, broke the window to the Typhoon, hot-wired it and drove off.
One of the mechanics actually saw the truck yesterday and had a feeling something wasn't right. He turned around to follow it but was gone by the time he was able to.
So I gave the information to the detective, called my insurance company, came to work and plastered it all over the internet. I was actually driving home (the garage door opener was in the Ty and I didn't know if I had any identifying paperwork in it that has my address listed) to disconnect the garage door opener when I get a text from one of my other employees stating that they just saw it on the back of an AB Collier flatbed on Foster Avenue.
I pulled over and called the shop and the head mechanic said they just pulled in with it out front. The wrecker service is the same wrecker service that we use at the dealership, and they knew immediately when they picked it up whose it was and took it back to the lot prior to go to impound.
The cop on scene said that it had already been called in and reported, so that it *had* to go to impound and wouldn't let anyone touch it, so the reports of damage that I have are from people who just viewed the truck briefly. By the time I was able to get back to the shop, they had already taken it to impound.
Went to impound and I can't view/touch/etc the truck until Auto Theft finishes up with it. They were already there working on a Durango that was recovered, so hopefully that process goes through pretty quick and it's released.
Then we can at least get it towed out of there and assess what kind of damage we are looking at.
UPDATE: TYPHOON HAS BEEN RECOVERED!
Okay, it's been recovered but I have yet to view it.
The towing company picked it up from the front of a business. It's the same towing company that we use for our lot, and they knew immediately whose vehicle it was so they took it back to the repair shop.
The cops were still there, but said that it had to go to Impound because the report had already been submitted into the system and the Auto Theft Unit needs to do their processing of it.
I went to impound, and they said that until it's released by Auto Theft, I can't view or touch the vehicle.
Through word of the tow truck driver and the repair shop, it seems as if they joy rode it.
The following are currently UNCONFIRMED reports of damage (until I can view it):
1. Allegedly had oil and coolant underneath it when it was towed from the business
2. Drivers side window is smashed out
3. Steering column is ****ed.
4. Stereo stolen
5. "damage to the dash"
6. Passenger seat "broken"
7. "Grass" stuck in the cladding/under carriage (indicating they took it off road)
So, it's sitting in impound until I get the "all clear". From there, I guess will have it towed out of there and taken back to the shop so that the damage can be assessed to see how bad it is.
