412 Cam in a So Gt

Well I have to pull the heads off my so gt since the former owner apparently did not realize the need for sealer on the head bolts. Well I have been thinking of doing a cam at the same time and was wondering if the 412 works well with these engines, this is a daily driver and I know from my sy it drove well I am just wondering how it will do with the stock computer in the so gt. If anyone has any suggestions they are greatly welcome. Thanks in advance.

The comp 412 and the CPI L35 cam are VERY Similair in specs, and i dont think you would really notrice any differance, atleast IMO i would do it.

I would step up to a 415 and i think that would be a nice combo, or just leave it stock cam if your not going to do alot of port work, also id start with a set of 1.6 roller rockers and get more lift out of the stock cam and then only go with a bigger cam of your going to port the heads and put in bigger valves.

Well I am getting larger valves in the l 35 heads and the intake is a ported intake I will be going with so I was planning on porting the heads a little at least enough to match the intake. I kind of figured this 4.3 had the same cam as the sy's.
To be truefully honest I haven't paided much attention to the so gt's so I don't know the best parts to use on these yet to make a decent reliable dd.
So basically with your guys recommendation I am just going to get some rebuilt l-35s with bigger valves and thats about it for now, that way I am not spending a ton of money and I will still have a nice daily driver.
Thanks

Yea, I wouldn't worry about a cam swap untill you have some decent heads to go with them. The bigger cam won't help you out unless you have real good port work to go with it and the power band is limited until you do.

Re: 412 Cam in a So Gt

Alright I am bringing this post back.

Well I am going to be putting a non balance shaft cam in this engine, 412, 415, or 422.

Since the 412 is so close I was thinking of getting the 415. Just looking for some good opinions. I would prefer to use the 412 since we have one laying around but if I am going to spend the time/money I might as well do it right.

Bearing in balance shaft is bad(99.9% sure it is) so instead of replacing the block or rebuilding the original engine I'm thinking different cam and timing cam and I should be good to go.

So thanks in advance for the help looking forward to getting rid of this annoying noise in the engine.
