1991 Syclone Project Suggestions Please

Hi Guys.

I joined this forum about 8 years ago when we did some Domestic automotive tuning.

We did 3 Syclone trucks and a Typhoons over the years so I know quite a bit about them but spend very little time on forums.The other two were simple turbo upgrades and this and that, but the last one was a full on build.

I recently inherited a project that we started about 7 years ago. The customer died and the bill was basicially the value of the truck.
Its a 1991 mid VIN number truck with 33k miles. I have all the original parts and we built a monster motor for it.

I have no time to finish and really zero interest any longer. We work mainly on German imports. Im not a snob, We drive Chrysler, Dodge ram and Chevy products so don't see this as a slight please.

I am looking for honest advice on what to do with the truck. My gut instinct is to pull the engine and trans and sell it with the original engine and have someone reassembly it as it is very nice already with low miles.

I have a huge list of what we did, but I guess pictures would speak better. He put about 40k into the truck.

You'll (he'll) NEVER recover the 40k that was put into it but depending the build, it may or may not be worth more as is (to the right buyer) as opposed to going back to original. It it was a sub-20k mile truck, different story.

That said, it will be easier to find a buyer for an original truck. Then sell the parts and monster engine separate to recoup some of the 40k.

I assume the truck has been sitting for 7 years? Someone's going to have alot of gremlins to work through. You have two choices as I see it. Sell the truck as is, knowing you're going to take a bath on it. I speak from experience as I bought a truck in a similar situation not knowing any better, and between missing parts, stuff that's just gone bad from sitting, etc. I would never buy a truck like that again, and most people probably know better than me. The other option is to put the truck back together, either with the original engine or modified engine, and make sure it drives. Whichever one is easier and less labor for you. Either way, you're again going to have a hard time recouping your costs, because the value of a modified truck with unknown pedigree, vs a stock truck with 33K miles on it, is probably going to be about the same.

I appreciate the input. No Gremlins but plenty of work to finish it. We did a nice job building it. We built it right. I have all the receipts to back it up and specs on the build. I NEVER expected to recover the funds spent. I am a realist. How do I post pictures and is this the right forum section to post in? I don't want to get in trouble. Im located in SLC, UT if someone wants to verify the project as well.

Gm 25534333 bowtie performance nodular iron engine block standard bore and deck. One of the last new ones I knew of. They may have started making them again.
Kings crankshaft billet 4340 crankshaft.
Crower billet I beam rods.
Crower roller camshaft.
Crower roller lifters.
Comp Cams roller rockers.
Brodix Lil brodie -10 Cylinder heads assembled by Chapman Racing.
Ported and flowed intake by Chapman Racing.
Custom sheet metal oil pan from California.
Tec3r electromotive with coil packs, sensors, wiring harness etc.
Custom exhaust headers ceramic coated and wrapped.
Tial wastegate.
Precision 4088 turbo.
PATC Rapto Transmission and internals.
Forged driveshaft u joints.
Custom SBC radiator
Air to water intercooler.
Remote oil filter. Custom air intake.
Custom throttle body.
J&E 2024 forged pistons.
Double roller chain custom valve covers.
LSD rear end with aluminum cover

Wasn't referring to your build when I spoke of Gremlins. Everything you've listed is in regards to the driveline. But the rest of the truck (bushings, internal vacuum lines, brakes, wiring, seals, et al) has been sitting and things tend to go bad. Those are the cost eaters in putting the truck back together and making sure it's road worthy and passes inspections.

Hi there.

I got ya. I'm not easily offended. I'm not married to the project. I just want to give a good idea of what it is and what it isn't. It is a nice project. It isn't a basket case. I'm looking for good advice and constructive criticism. I won't take my toys and go home. I know that the project was going to take a bath and I am realistic that the likely way to maximize funds is to sell the truck separate from the engine and upgraded parts. At least I have the original engine and parts....minus the oriiginal turbo charger.

You will probably get the most money out of the truck if you put the original parts back in the truck and sell off the performance parts, assuming the trucks condition is what one would expect of 33k mile Syclone.

4088 is good to about 650ish hp. He wanted a fuse somewhere. The transfer case would have exploded and then the rear end I suspect. Ill try to post some pics tonite.

Open a account in photobucket. Load your pics there. Then to the side you will have links when you have each picture pulled up. I think it is the image link you click on over there(It will say copy when you do that). Then come over to your post here and paste the link. Then save post.The picture will be is this post if done right. You can add the rest of your pics then save. I may be wrong on img being the one you copy and paste. It may be HTML. Try one first. to make sure that is the one. It may be one of the other links you copy and paste. You will see the links.

Thank you for the info, Phil. You know this really is a neat forum. I get some much good info and don't see a lot of bitc'in from people. Its nice to see people really intersted in helping other forum members keep their trucks on the road. I will try to post more pictures tomorrow. Its a really neat truck and needs a good home.

If it was running and dyno'd on video (thus proving it running and in working order) that motor would be worth a substantial amount of money, between the bowtie block, forged crank, and Brodie heads. You'd probably get half of what your going to get out of the truck from it. If I were you, id find a rebuilt stock turbo and get the truck back into road condition and sell the built motor and headers and turbo as a package combo my 2 cents

I'd sell the truck as a roller, and give an option to include stock parts of value, original engine block, intakes and so on.

Have the bowtie long block ran on a engine dyno and get it on video of a few runs. With a fair price you should sell about as easy as the roller.

Depending on how much you value your labor, that's what I'd do. You would have a hard time finding a buyer for the truck in running condition with the bowtie at a price you would likely consider reasonable.
