Looks like all the vac lines are hooked up. Where or what should I look for??? I must add that during cold startup the idle drops and comes back up.

Re: Turbo "Whistling" and boost fluttering

The whistle could be a cracked air box / tube. Maybe the lil hose the goes from the PCV valve to the air tube.

Boost fluctuation could be caused by knock. Depends. Got Datamaster?

No I dont its basically all stock. K&N filter, 3" exhaust. It also did it when I took the airbox off just to see if the box / tube was cracked (open turbo)

Have you checked the fins on the turbo? I know a bent one will make a weird noise when in boost.

I have tried to check but its tight down there... If it is the turbo does anyone know the stock replacement number? And how difficult is it to replace? I hate feeling like a noob, I build and race 9 & 10 second Honda cars. But I dont want to screw up my truck.. Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Could it be bad plugs??? I mean I cant figure it out for the life of me. Bad spark maybe? Cause I am not using cheap gas ever.

it is not the turbo, the fact that it makes sound says it is spinning fine. (well, sorta)

if you are hearing this sound, it is liikely a leak from the turbo, beforfe the intake manifold.

my bet (and i would put 50 bux on it) is the 3" (oval) piece of rubber from the IC to the IM. it slowly loosens itself, and will leak a good ammount of air/boost.

double check that first (as in, uninstall, spray inside of silicone/rubber hose with hairspray, and reinstall [yes, i mean HAIRSPRAY] and see what happens)

My sy, I mean MikeMcNairs sy, was making a similar noise, turned out to be a split rubber plug on the upper intake, firewall side.

Re: Turbo "Whistling" and boost fluttering

Not yet mentioned is to check teh hose from turbo to IC. I had mine come off just enough to leak and only when I looked close did I spot that it was off. -0- noise though, just -0- boost.

Re: Turbo "Whistling" and boost fluttering

Another thing you might wanna check is the compressor wheel. It will make som pretty funny sounds if a blade is chewed, but the fluctuation in boost points to somethin less expensive.

Yeah I think its the turbo. Has some shaft play. Still cant see the blades but I have done enough turbo cars to know that the shaft play is not good. So!!!! Where can I find a replacement turbo? Or does anyone know the part number to the stock one?

u can send it out and have it rebuilt i just sent my vw turbo out to gpopshop.com call them up they are really helpful. The standard rebuild for a td06 is 350 and that gives u a 1 year warrenty. Im having them put bigger wheels on both ends and that is going to come to about 575 with everything. I have a blown stock turbo that i could sell to you if u need one to send out...
