Re: Nissan Skyline GTR (2008)

had a customer of mine say they saw one on loop 360 here in austin, tx.

Saw one on twice on 71 and Bee Caves Road in Austin...
Second time I was in my Viper and chased him down.
He pulled into HEB to either avoid me...or buy some vagisil.

Either way, sad.

Alledgedly, they are quick but I have my doubts if they will overcome a viper :).

Give me a break....even a Datsun Z with an rb25 single turbo can beat a Viper ! Hell...here's a video of the Datsun beating the snot on a Viper that is Hennesy twin turbo'd and from a roll cause the Viper owner wouldn't go from a dig.

I should point out...this is just a biased example and nothing more as far as proof. I'm sure at some point the 187,000$ TT H Viper would roll up...maybe after a mile or so ??

 Just saying.....And thats the really old Skyline engine.....at 2.5 litre's to boot. I do love the Viper looks though.
I just love the overall useability of the GT-R as a daily more. (not that I can swing one right now though,)
Cheers,Vinny

No way will even a truck set up with fast road car suspension hand unless it had R compound tires and big ass brakes.

FWIW, I read a magazine test that the new ACR Viper beat the GTR roughly 5 seconds or so in during a lap time test. My memory is a bit sketchy since I just skimmed through the magazine article.

Btw, I'm not liking this hood one bit with the fiberglass fenders and aluminum core support. Need something lighter. I need a hood! Maybe even a pin on!

Adam...do you mean don't try to stick with the Nissan ? Or the Viper ?:dunno:

There's a test that includes the new Viper ACR and GTR in this months Road & Track. Depending on the type of race (road coarse, autocross, etc.) they trade places. Test numbers put them generally within 3 seconds or less of each other, depending on the specific test.

Anymore, it seems high end cars these days are made for a specific purpose. You need to choose your car based on your need. :dunno:

The ACR rules the roost right now. It beat the ZR-1 on the Nurnbering circuit by over 4 seconds. Keep in mind on that circuit (7+ minutes one time around in exotics), every part of the car is tried....by that, I mean acceleration, braking, lateral G force ability, suspension, top end, weight shift, tire grip, etc. The Nissan GT-R cheated and ran the circuit passing the laser in the beginning at speed. The ACR and ZR-1 started from a dead stop.

Those are a baddd ride. I had a S281 and sold it late last year. His S351 should be equipped with a 6 speed which makes a big difference in the gearing (torque). Mine had a 5 speed and although a good handling car, it lacked the uummpph I was looking for.

They're all fast/quick. Only one makes sense when it comes to price. In this case less is more as far as what you get for the money.

Chevy, Dodge and Nissan aren't paying me to drive their cars so I refuse to be brand loyal, gung-ho or whatever you wanna call it.

I think your the first person I've seen admitt this ! There's no doubt the GT-R is not the end all ride. But for me....compared to something that can't handle more than 1 other occupant and has little to none storage space....or can't be driven in the wet and CERTAINLY not in the snow or ice....I'd say the GT-R is hands down a better seasonal daily driver for the performance characteristics it provides....not to mention the cost.

I also agree and can see why so many domestic car lovers and even some JDM lovers don't care for the looks or style. But then again...its the very esscence of that in which I take an eye for it.;) I drove a Datsun 240-Z back when I was 16 street racing every Mustang ans Z28 or Corvette that hassled me into it being a Japcar driver. They didn't realize what power to weight ratio meant for traction off the line...or my higher revs for that matter....at least not so much back in the late 79-80's. Plus...after I got a name for winning...I had to put a turbo system in to stay ahead. Some boys were getting BIG HP out of their cars by then on the street. Ahhh....highschool days,lol.:p

Would be real interested to see..they are sweet cars but totally different in philosophies. I don't have computers controlling every little aspect of my driving experience (don't even have cruise control). From what I have read, almost anyone can take it to the limit; not so in the Viper.

Spotted a silver GTR tonight coming home from dinner...nothing exciting for you guys, but it is very very rare to see any rare vehicles in Great Falls MONTANA. It's pretty damn hard to find what you are looking for even if you have the money.
