ok so i keep popping my 10amp EcmB fuse. the Ty will just all of a sudden shut off. i doesnt matter where im at either. i could be stopped or accelerating or even just crusing and the engine will just shut off. all the lights are still good. i try to crank it over but it wont turn. so does anyone know what may be causeing this? its getting very annoying dying in the middle of an intersection during rush hour.

thanks

Try a 15 amp fuse for now. Did you recently upgrade fuel pumps? If so, you wnat to re-wire some of the wiring for the pump. Or you can get the racetronix kit. If you didn't do this, maybe your pump is shorting out.

i put a 20 amp fuse for now. i believe the fuel pump and filter are stock units and never been changed. theres about 175k on the chassis. is Ecm B on the same circut as the fuel pump?

whats a racetronix kit?

Yes ecmb power fuel pump, I suspect fuel pump is drawing more than the 10amps for some reason.

The walbro aftermarket pumps draw right at 10amps, an old worn out pump might draw a bit extra also.

yeah mine did the same thing once , just up and died turning a corner , only had 20 ampers , took three 20 ampers to go five miles , finally with 2 miles to go i jammed a 30 amp in there to finish making it home. not a good thing to do but better than leaving it sit somewhere. a new fuel pump fixed it right back up.

Re: ty keeps dying? ECM B fuse blowing?

thanks so much guys. ive been searching and searching and searching before i posted to try to figure this out. it was looking like the fuel pump is the culprit. i just wanted to make sure by asking. i read up on sytyarchives.com the fuel pump replacement. and that does look to hard. while im there i might as well change out the fuel filter too. is there an upgrade for that that i should use? or is oem fine ?
i keep hearing that GM fuel pumps from early models all really suck. so should i waste money on just replaceing the stock unit? i want to upgrade so i have room to grow with power. plus i want a more reliable unit. and something a bit louder too so i can actually hear it on or not.
any suggestions on a good upgrade fuel pump?

thanks,

stuart

Re: ty keeps dying? ECM B fuse blowing?

most people run the walbro , thats the one i went with. i bought the harness also but never installed it. the fuel filter is mounted on the frame not in the tank , however there is a small sock on the end of the pump that i would replace. if its stock you also would want to leave out the little black pulsator i believe its called. not that bad of a job to do , hopefully you wernt like me and just got done filling the tank.

what size walbro is a good one to go with? i plan on upgrading the turbo here very soon. so it needs to work for the stock and upgraded setup also. can i just throw in the new pump and go?
and is just replacing the fuel filter with an oem one just fine? or is there an upgrade for that i should do?

check the oil pressure switch if it shorts to ground it will blow the fuse also, try changing that first.

Re: ty keeps dying? ECM B fuse blowing?

When I put in my new walbro fuel pump and started to turn up the fuel pressure. My truck just totally died. Sure enough it was the ECM fuse. I changed it and have not had a problem since.

are you saying the same fuse kept blowing? and once you switched to the Walbro it worked fine?

Re: ty keeps dying? ECM B fuse blowing?

I have heard of pump being bad an blowing fuses, so changing the pump out if it's bad could help. But one time I went to change one and found a wire had rubbed up against the brackets inside the tank and caused the short, And the dealler wouldn't let me return the pump after the purchase.
