Something Clicking

There is a clicking from somewhere underneath the truck everytime I give the ty a lot of gass. I can step on the gas just enough to where it won't do it but as soon as the truck squats and I step harder on the pedal it will click click click click. It's a loud click almost a pop or clunk. I think it may be the driveshaft rubbing once the rear end moves up and the u joints may be hitting. But that is just a guess. I would like to fix this as soon as possible before it break and destroys something else in the process. If anyone lives close to charlotte and would be willing to take a ride in my truck to help pinpoint the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Stab it and steer it
Re: Something Clicking

Just my :2cents: but check your front drive-line. If stock look for a broken boot at the front, try to move both u-joints up & down. There should virtually NO sideways movement in that shaft. Do some slow turning with the wheel full left or right going forward and back. Is the noise there then?

Re: Something Clicking

Its the ticking of the time bomb thats about to go off from driving the truck too hard. :rotf:
sorry i just had too say that. do you have any driveshaft safety loops that the driveshaft or the propshaft could be rubbing on. maybe a broken transmission mount?

Re: Something Clicking

No loops. the truck is stock. I didn't think about a mount. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

Re: Something Clicking

I don't hear the noise when i turn. its only when I get on it a bit and the truck will squat and make the noise.

Re: Something Clicking

does it feel like it jerks or loses a little acceleration when it pops or clunks. like don said, look at the propshaft and see what that does. if you dont see anything you can remove the propshaft and drive it breifly without it.. but be warned do not not not get too aggressive with the throttle, the tires will spin very easily with only rear drive. dont want you to end up in the ditch or something.

Re: Something Clicking

Thats a great idea. I'll remove it and see if the noise goes away. Thank you

Re: Something Clicking

Yeah when it starts to click it does seem like the truck slows down a bit, but that might just be me not wanting to give it anymore gas

Re: Something Clicking

you could also have some friends sit in the back too squat it down to see if its something binding when it squats down from acceleration. but i dont think there's anything back there to hit the driveline.

Re: Something Clicking

my vote goes to the front propshaft... i'd remove it and take her for a ride and see plus if the boot is rippped it's a good indicator that it's the problem and will sooner then later break and cause other damage other parts near by like shifter linkage, oil pan etc

Re: Something Clicking

Just removed the front prop shaft and the noise is gone. The cv boots are in tach and look very good. I am going to replace the shaft with a new one. I don't want to replace it with the same stock shaft. What is a new Gilbert with the adapters and seals and bolts going to cost me?
