Upper Midwest Gathering? - Car Craft July 25-27

Since the growing trend is for more organized regional gatherings, I figure I'll throw this out there:

How about a big MN/ND/MB/WI/IA/SD Gathering at the Car Craft Summer Nats?
(and open to other states who want to show up)

http://www.carcraft.com/eventcovera...11_2008_car_craft_summer_nationals/index.html

Yes, there will be lots of cars, but I figure we can carve out our own little Sy/Ty section someplace.

We'll do a Hooters-style cruise-in to a Famous Dave's someplace. Maybe, an "after-hours" event at someone's house down there?

Racing, unfortunately, ain't gonna happen, unless we can find some street fun that isn't being busted by the riot police. Nearest track is better than an hour away.

We've got some time to figure out other stuff to do. I can do a mini-tech thing on code59 and tuning topics, if folks are interested.

I think Jim's planning on having his tricked-out Ty there already (although it'll be in a booth, probably). Would be nice to see a few other unique guys out and about.

Whaddaya think?

Re: Upper Midwest Gathering? - Car Craft July 25-27

I might be interested. I have to run it past the women. I will ask her if she wants to go. Weekends are the only time we see each other. If we dont hang out on weekends we become strangers.
I know Im whipped :squint:

Yup the ty will be there in a booth, but will be driving the xtreme or white ty in. We can hang out at my place (about 10 mins away) Or others are around. So I am in for anything.

Sounds good to us.

How about we revive the SyTy golf outing? Or maybe a racquetball challenge? ;)

LOL! That definetly gives you an advantage. I went to college down there and thats all they know how to do is drink. Some of my friends feel funny if they are not drunk.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be there. I'll be staying at my dads place in Brooklyn Park. He has a 9 secong Nova, and usually we go to the rum river meet sat night. The other 10% is if my wife has the baby that weekend ,then I'm sure she would be mad at me if I went. Now for the 50's the kids just going to have to wait. I'm bringing beer. Dig you still want me to try get the same as what you asked for last year?.

More than welcome to bring the wife/SO along. There's lots of stuff to do in the area.
Can always do the Mall thing, if she's into that. Valleyfair. Casino. Lotsa options.

I figured we'd get more Cities guys with this...

Those that are local- please spread the word to those to don't frequent the board or don't have internet access. Also, if you spot one in a lot someplace, stuff a note under the wiper.
(I may make up a little flyer to print off for this purpose.)

An excellent idea. Any good hacker courses on the south/east side?
(trying to keep reasonably close to Fairgrounds, so we don't have to drive all over.

Or maybe a racquetball challenge? ;)

Last time I played, I almost broke someone's arm. Big swooping swing = bad.

Do you guys still have a copy of the old MN/ND Syty Excel spreadsheet?

I suppose Chuck's got a meet somewhere that weekend... I'll extend the invite anyway.

Later,

Re: Upper Midwest Gathering? - Car Craft July 25-27

I just remembered Im heading to Canada for fishing that weekend. I sure would have liked to go.
When Im up there I should take some sy/ty's back from those Canadians. :rotf:

The only one remotely close that I've played is Lost Spur near the intersections of 494 and 35E in Eagan. It's a decent 9-hole course that's fairly hacker-safe due to large, unforgiving trees... No beer-cart girls, though :(

I've been looking for it, but haven't been able to find it. I think I've been through 3 PCs and 30 reformats since then. I'll keep looking, though. I think only 10% of the people on that list still have their SyTys --- not that I blame them.

If you and the family need a place to stay, your welcome at our lush, Chaska villa. Henry would be pretty psyched to hang with Ellie again.

Can we get Sunni to drive a cart with beer in it?

Sounds good to me.

I was more or less looking of it as a reference. I'm also gonna try to make a list of syty.org id's that have mentioned that they're from around the area. Would like to see a few of the non-regulars make it out.

I think Justin (nallj92) has a decent list of locals?

Cripes, I just noticed this... The beer and the cart might not make it past the first hole with Sunni driving. She's had some interesting driving experiences lately.

I'm pretty far out of the loop as to whom is still around. I haven't even seen one on the road since last fall. There's been so many who get tired of their trucks within a year or two and get rid of them. Again, not that I blame them :)

How is your Sy progressing?

You may not believe this, but the motor/trans is darn near ready to go back in. I coated myself with POR-15 (guess how well that comes off) while getting the trans crossmember back in shape yesterday.

Motor-wise, it's pretty much all back together. I gotta get a 5/8 NF tap to fix the oil pan threads... I've got an oversize drain plug in there now, but I don't like that as a solution. I also need to find some gaskets for those chrome valve covers of yours; they don't like the fel-pro ones that need to be stretched over a lip. (The chromies don't have the lip)
Plan B is to go back to the stock painted covers, but that would be a waste of the 3 hours that I spent polishing the chrome.

Also need to flush a bunch of hoses and pipes, give the motor a quick flush on the stand, and we're ready to go. Engine bay needs a good cleanup before she goes back in. It's all the little detail stuff that takes all the time.

I think the end of July is doable. Sooner or later, I need to just give up polishing things and put the dang thing back in.
