Rental. I'm from WI as well, and salt is a killer on old S-trucks. IMO, Syclones aren't the most comfortable vehicles in the world for long distance hauls, a Ty on the other hand....
I used to have an 84' S-10 with the bench seat. There were quite a few 9-12hr road trips I did in it. But i KNOW a Syclone will be 100x more confortable than a Humvee wearing 75lbs of gear while driving down shitty a$$ roads.... But on/after the 15th how will the roads up in IN be?

Re: Sy Road Trip

If you do decide to drive the Sy look at the forecast before you go. Last year there was a major blizzard in the midwest during the first week of March. I know the truck is AWD but most cars on the road aren't and even if your in control of your truck the guy behind you can still lose control and take out your cladding(I mean truck). You can always rent a car at the last minute or try to find a cheap flight.

Every time I rent a car in central Florida it has a clause about not leaving the state of Florida. If you think you just won't tell them, you'd better hope it doesn't have a GPS/Nav system or OnStar. I've heard they can program them to issue an alert if you leave the designated area. The good news is they usually have unlimited miles.

The last time I rented a car I reserved a full size for 9 days at a total cost of $156 dollars. When I got there I found an Impala SS in the regular full size section. I think it was meant to be in the specialty section, but I asked (to make sure) and they said 'take it'. A 300 horse V8, it was a blast and they didn't even try to charge me for a higher level car when I brought it back.

You only live once, consider it and anything that comes an adventure. It works for me.

The first year to nats the group of us drove 5,000 miles round trip so no excuses.

Re: Sy Road Trip

He's got a point. Be more worried about living your life than getting a rust spot on your truck. Rust spots can be fixed and you can always buy another truck, without rust, later.

Re: Sy Road Trip

My mind set was LIVE FAST, REST WHEN YOU ARE DEAD.... yeah road trip from Orlando to Up State NY with an total average speed of just over 113mph. The cops didnt chase me when i passed them at 145+ and then turned my lights off. I was young and dumb. I try to think things out alittle more 1st.... But i did find a guy who isnt too far from where I am going to be who is a die hard S-truck fan. We are goign to tear it down to bare frame and powerder coat it and build the truck back up. But that will be in a couple of years. Looking at a 6 month down time. Oh it can be done, just have to have the money and time to work to do it. i restored a 78 vette in 3 months (only got 2-4hrs of sleep during that time though).

From what I hear its been raining and most of the salt is washed off, barring no freeze I'll be driving the Sy.

That's a stretch, isn't it? Kevlar, LBE and flak vest total about 24 pounds :).

Just curious what vehicle this was accomplished in? Guess it is remotely possible if you didn't stop for fuel, didn't stop to eat, didn't stop for bathroom breaks, never had to slow down for other traffic, etc. but passing a cop and then shutting your lights off at over 145 mph and not being pursued....that is something out of Hollywood. You should consider becoming a fiction writer. You do seem to possess some talent in this regard.

LOL... I stopped for gas, swipped my card, put the pump in, ran in, pissed, and ran back out and back on the road. I arrived at 7am, so almost the entire trip was in the dark. At times I went 20 minuts with out seeing a vehicle going either direction. It was a Back Z28 with smoke light covers all around, ik was out driving my high beams anyway so turning them off didnt effect me too much LOL. He dided persue at least the I knew, never saw any blue lights behind me.... cop- 0mph off of the road, me- 145mph and accelerated once i passed..... Its not fiction, its fact.
