I am set up for a pte63 , offered a 61 and 67... advice? ---

I have my truck set up for a pte63 (buick version 690hp), and while looking for a deal on a new one (syty specific).... I have been offered a pte67gtq (730hp) and a modded pte52 (600hp) that was upgraded by pte to a 61 (? hp , cant find it...the buick one is 620).

My main goal is quick spool for the streets without sacraficing 1/4 mile times, and a syty specific turbo. I am pretty sure I want to stick with the 63, but I dont have experience with various turbos in person. Do you guys think these other two would be better for me? They are all journal bearing.

Mods are (close to) f.a.s.t., meth, ported l35's, rpm a/a , 58mm tb, 75# injectors, atr headers, atr dp, 422 cam, 3k stall, vortec bov, and a turbonetics evolution wastegate ran off a greddy spec 2 boost controller (if I am missing obvious mods to help make an assesment, let me know).

Also , if you can recommend another turbo (or maybe BB) that sounds good for my current parts, I am in for all the advice I can get. Goals are low 11's , high 10's. Thanks guys, its about to go to the shop for this summers drag season!!! ---

I am going to guess that the PTE61 is a 6152. The turbo buicks can push those turbo into the 10's at 125mph. This turbo is slightly larger than the GT35R (same compressor wheel but slightly larger exhaust wheel). I have PTE 6131e BB, PTE doesn't make a 6152 in BB as last I check. One thing about the GT35 and PTE61's is they aren't a high boost turbo's in our applications. The turbo buick owners have reported peak performance in 22-24 psi range, higher boost doesn't help performance. For me this one idea that sold me on that turbo, since I have heard of air distribution issues on the stock intake become a big factory past 25 psi. It something you might want to check out with 63 and 67 (I don't have them, so I have thoughly researched them). I kind of wish I bought a GT35R instead of my PTE61BB, (I am probably not going to do it over a few MPH, if their was some way to upgrade my current turbo to 6152BB I might), but if I was upgrading to a new turbo I would go for a 67 BB.

The ball bearing is VERY tempting. Choices choices ;) ... I keep cringing at the cost, but then realize all the money I spent on "quality" parts until now , WHY scrimp out on the turbo?! Do BB turbos last longer than j. bearing ones? ---

I am going to research a DBB 67 now ... if its $1500 or less I guess that will be my choice. I am sure the slightly bigger turbo being DBB will spool as quick as a thrust 63 and mount the same right? As long as its still streetable I will be happy , it will only see the track about 2x's a month while the track is open ( 6 months I guess ) ---

I have the PTE63e and it spools pretty quick, my old engine had L35's, 65lb injectors, and a 412 cam.. was very happy with the way it spooled.. never got to run at the track but hopefully will have the chance this spring on the new engine.

The new engine isn't too much different.. Ported Vortecs, 65lb, and still a 412 cam. Really interested in how these heads will be compared to the L35s

I'm leaning towards a 63 as well for my build. Max boost output was a good point. does anyone know the max output of the PT63E?

I just found a pte67bb turbo from DETROIT TURBO (a sponsor) :

http://www.detroitturbo.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=190

As long as I get it in .85 a/r , it will pretty much bolt right in like the 63? What would be the performance difference if I went 4"/ 2.5" compared to 3"/2"? ---

Around the size of GT35R/PTE61 the the difference between a 3/2 and 4/2.5 will start be noticable. I would probably think about, but the larger size does affect IC piping mating if you already have that (or atleast the transistion to the IC piping). The inlet just require a different (typically cobra elbow)

I think you would be very very happy with the 67dbb. I have had 2 and they are a blast. Spool is quick! I have one on the Sy now that will end up on the wifes Ty. Sy will go back stock and a 72 or 74 on my Ty. After comparing the stock, 20G and a PTE 52....... I don'tthink I will ever buy a new turbo that's not BB.

Well i currently have a GT35R Turbo on my truck. Our best times are 11.30/119MPH on 18lbs of boost and pump gas. Mods: Big Stuff 3, 84Lb injectors, Vortec Heads, JE Pistons, 3.5 Downpipe, FMIC 3 in piping, Headers.

My old Set-up was a PTE52, 422 cam, Vortecs, SRP, ATR Headers, 2.5 FMIC DEquick, on 100 Octane 25lbs of boost went 11.50 @ 120MPH. Oh yea Ultimate Chip.

But that 11.50 was hard to get back too.

The GT35R is pretty much very consistent, I have 30 or so 11. sec tickets from the track on 17-18 lbs of boost with the this turbo. In a Syclone good for high 10's. We are trying to get to the mid 10's with mine but we may upgrade to a GT42 very soon and i will be selling my GT35R.

OOOH , I may just stick with the 3/2 since my ic pipe and my cobra elbow already fit. I will have to think about that part of it :) ... thanks for the heads up. Would the 3/2 spool quicker, just not net as many peak hp? ---

I have a bb pte67 with the 4"/2.5"and when i was researching buying a turbo I was worried it might have some lag compared to the 61, gt35r, 63 etc..I cant tell you it spools as fast as a stock turbo but its very close. Its almost not worth comparing and thats with a big front mount a/a and 3" pipe. I would recommend this turbo to anyone that daily drives their truck with vortecs and an upgraded cam. Get it and dont look back

I have McCoy ported l35's with enlarged valves , and a custom cam a little bigger than the 422. I think the 3000 stall will be fine. Whats your stall set at? What made you go 4"/2.5" ? ---

So from my understanding the 6776dbb is larger than the gt35r and should be able to put a ty into the high 10's on moderate boost (supporting modifications of corse).

You are right. There are a few good turbos listed in this thread that will do that though. ---

Actually i bought the turbo from a board member so it came that way but I dont see why the 4" would make much difference under high air velocity or high boost. I have heard its a good idea to get a shrouded compressor cover if your going to order one new. I have a 2800 stall, however I blow through the brakes at 2800 if that tells you anything.

Just got done running the rest of the miles on mine, As we head to Harry Anderson 2morrow to drop off and start the tuning process. Just thought i do a small launch in the driveway since i installed the CBR 12" Front Brake Kit on my truck. Well lets just say it had no problem walking right up to 7 lbs of boost before i let off the throttle.

Lookss very promising that my truck will launch like an animal at the track now.

I know Auto Addictions has the 13" C5 Kit and he starts to spin his rear tires with front brakes held.

Just a few more weeks before we are back and ready for the prey.

I have been involved now with 3 67DBB turbo trucks and so far I don't have any big complaints about them.

Are the pte63 and 67bb turbos the same size? Will they both clear the a/c and other obstacles? ---

I went with a PT67BB on my stock motor and I love it. Helped when I went to an 80e Tranny I got a bigger stall on my TC. Think I am at 3200 stall.
