Miami - Day 1

Welp, me and ian got in at Garys on Thurs at about 11pm.

Got up this morn and got started on Ians idler, pitman and zq8 box. Took our time, pretty much an easy swap. Burned most of our time looking at the 8 boxes Gary had aquired and measuring ratios and checking what the alpha numbers on each box meant making sure we had true zq8 boxes.

Gary went and got 2 new tires mounted up for ian while we worked on starting to put things back together. Rob and Mona showed up just as we were dropping the truck back to the ground.

Overall good day, got stuff done that we wanted, minus an alignment.

Time to go eat.....

The new steering box rules so far... it makes a ton of nasty noise at first as it still has a lot of air, but its a huge difference in feel already. Can't wait to get the alignment done and rip the sidewalls off my tires.

*sigh* No... it was so close, too. Looks like Monday or Tuesday. I wanted to push it, but I was reasoned with. It would suck to work on this thing for 3 years, and blow it up because I rushed at the end and missed something simple.

I have to get one thing wrapped up for work, and then I'll head out. I should be there close to 10am.

Oh, and you all missed BigAl's sweet truck. Freshly done, 50 miles on the motor when he arrived.

Re: Miami - Day 1

made those years ago with ian. unfortunately, no they are not 100% CF, just a wrap.

we've come a long way and learned alot in those years, so they are up on the list for being redone.... in 100% CF.

I just wanted to say it was real nice to put some faces with some names. Thanks again to Gary for hosting, and providing lunch. The steak was great :D

Al and Rob, we will have to keep in touch to exchange some information as we work on our respective builds :)

Gary,

Thank you for your hospitality in hosting this annual event...great trucks, great food, and most importantly, great people! Although I have not been very involved in the SyTy community for the past several years, I always make a point to check this forum around each New Year in anticipation of your Miami meet. This year especially has been very difficult due to some personal issues...I have done nothing "fun" for myself for quite a while, as lately my life has revolved around just working, sitting in hospitals, and occasionally sleeping and eating. So, it was a very welcome diversion for me to come down and spend a few hours with the FAST crew...seeing many OG SyTy peeps, as well as meeting a few others for the first time. Thanks again, and I'll hopefully have some updates on the status of my own truck to share wilth you over the upcoming months (and probably years).

Rob

Edit: Somebody had to be irresponsible and do a big smokey burnout; hopefully your neighbors aren't too pissed.

The only ones pissed are the ones who missed it. Adam especially. Always a pleasure to host and see everyone. A few regulars didn't make it and we missed them. I'm going to try to raise the ante again next year. And for those who weren't around on Sunday we had a good time and some success at the annual U-Pick parts hunt and destruct-o-derby.
