May have some trouble here

I sold a set of wheels to a board member here recently. I let em go for I think about 300. The wheels were in near perfect shape when I sent them out with the exception of one ding in one of the rear wheels that was on the outer lip. When I went to package these, I had to have the tires removed. I took them to Peerless to hae them pulledd but asked to have the balance checked and everything balanced out perfect. So the member I sold them to is now saying they are bent and though I never personally drove the wheels, the people I know who have said it driove fine and the balance was great, no wobble or anything. He also tells me that it looked like they had been thrown around during shipping(which I wouldnt totally doubt), and he sends me a PM asking me how I want to handle this? Im not sure what all I am really required to do since I sent them off in good condition. I told him to take the wheels to a shop and get a professional opinion on how they couldve ended up this way and if it is possible they were bent in shipping then get an estimate on what it would cost to fix them and Ild have to try and collect the insurance for them. I thoguht this was a pretty fair solution but he has sent me another PM with no regard to my last PM containing the solution, just another, How do you want to handle this? What should I do at this point? Personally, I dont feel responsible at all since the alst itme the wheels were in my hands, they were in awsome shape, I contemplated not even selling htem but I have so much crap in my garage they had to go.

In my Opinion i would have the Person who bought them to take it up with Insurance, If you had Pics and there was nothing wrong with them when you had them then i would say sorry. Its out of your hands.

BINGO If they were in satisfactory condition when you sold them and they were packaged RESPONSIBLY to insure safe delivery, it is an insurance matter. Period. If they didn't want to pay a few extra bucks for insurance, they are SOL. Tell them sorry but, that's life in the big city.

This is exactly why folks are reluctant to ship heavy/large items opting for "pick up only". People don't want to pay a few extra bucks for insurance, the item gets damaged in transit and then they expect the seller to "make things right". And if you don't, be prepared for "automotive internet forum blackmail" to be mentioned by name as a bad person to deal with unless you "fix" their problem

Kinda what I had figured. I had them insured at $200 per wheel, more htan enough to repair them if that is really the case. Guess I know for next time.

First off, did he send you pic's of the damage / bent areas? Have you seen pic's of them and the damaged packaging? All 4 wheels (Vegas wouldn't give odds on that)? If they shipped via Fed-X or UPS and were insured then you will have to file the claim as the shipper (you do still have your receipt's right?), they won't let him do it (USPS will). Now make sure that he keeps the boxes and all the packing material (you did pack them real well...right?), he needs to take those pic's and the wheels to his nearest station office or have a driver come to him for "inspection"...... that is his responsibility (and tell him not to let them keep or have the wheels, boxes or packing. They can look but not keep!). If he doesn't have pic's, threw away the damaged boxes and the packing material (internal damage due to bad or lack of proper packing is not covered!), then he just threw away his evidence and money for the wheels. Go from there and keep us posted. Responsibility is a two way street for loss and damage in that both parties have to do certain things to make a successful claim work out and don't forget, there is a time limit to file!

Good luck!

Re: May have some trouble here

Did he say they were bent when he took them out of the packages? Or did he have them put on and had vibration and had a shop tell him they were "bent"? I've had several shops tell me some of mine were "bent", when actually it was an incorrect balance. If a shop doesn't cone them & speed balance them correctly you will chase vibration forever until you get them balanced right

Re: May have some trouble here

I'd agree with what Cheryl said. I've seen it more than once. SyTy wheels seem to be known for being bent when balanced by an incompetent shop.

There isn't much to packing a set of wheels. I've had 'em show up in no more than a card board box.

Yep, been there on that very same thing more than once myself. In fact it was so bad at one tire shop I thought I was gonna have to break out the down pipe bitch slap on the little snot nose 18 or so yr. old kid that was an "expert".

He told me that he went to get tires on them and they were too bent to put them on. I have no idea iif he has the packing still, I PMed him my # and I guess hell be calling me today. Ill help out with the claim thing but the wheels left here just fine you know? So hopefully he kept the boxes and what not and he said he will take pics of them this weekend.

Too bent to put a tire on? If a wheel was that bent, it should've been apparent when he took them out of the box...

Re: May have some trouble here

i got them yesterday, i went to mount tires on them tonight and everyone of them is bent!! one has a slight bend in it two real bad with two bad bends and more smaller ones, it looks like they were throwing the boxes around, how do you want to go about this?

This is what I have. He is going to sned me pics at some point this weekend. Sounds to me like they werent handled well during shi[pping. IM going to call DHL on Monday and see if we cant get it resolved. I talked to the buyer a few hours ago and were going to try and work it out with the insurance, only option as far as I can see since like I said, they went out fine.

Like what was said in the above post. If the rim were too bent to put a tire on, that should have been seen when taken out of the box. Sounds like a fish story here. If you shipped a long way, found out if someone else on the forum can look at them for you ASAP.

Re: May have some trouble here

I work for the USPS and have a FedEx and DHL account. Both of those companies have handled hundreds of packages for me with 0 issues. If you sent 4 good wheels in 4 seperate boxes, the odds of every one of them getting damaged is about as good as a snowball existing in hell. I'm not gonna get into the middle of this but bottom line is you as a seller have to stand by your product. Maybe you guys can reach a compromise in the pricing some; I mean we are only talking about $300 and the caps alone in good shape will pull that amount. Every hour a claim is delayed reduces your odds of winning a claim about 1%. All the best.

Did the buyer get to see pics of each rim? Were they sold "as is". If you shipped them and they were in good shape as you described and the buyer got them in not useable shape, I think it is the carriers problem ,not yours. If the buyer bought them with out seeing them, and he got them in worse shape then you say, it's basically your word against his. I will not buy anything with out seeing a pic of it first. If it was listed on this forumn with pics of the items, then that is what you both went buy. It sounds like maybe the guys at dhl played football with your items, and the buyer has to deal with it now( providing they are insured), if they are not, then the buyer has a set of door stops now.

Re: May have some trouble here

All i can say is good luck with getting shipping company to pay the insurance $$. I hope all turns out well for all concerned. Sounds like they chunked the boxes out of the back of delivery van going down interstate for them to be in the condition they're saying they got them in
