Re: Tunning help...

You can start by slowlyturning down the FP, the 50# ultimate use open loop fueling, so the O2 sensor doesn't correct for a rich running motor like the stock chip does.

Re: Tunning help...

It runs best at 40psi . The only problem im having is idle. When hot (180 or so) wb shows 12.0 - 12.5. at idle, (it does not make any diffrence 36psi or 45psi.) It loads up, and it takes about 20min of driving to clear.
One more question; does the pcm still has a learning feature? I unplug the battery after driving it for the day.

50# ultimates were mostly open loop, so, no learning.

12.0- 12.5 isn't "loading up".... or even close. If you were in the 10's, then yeah, but 12's isn't terribly out of whack.

The fact that your FP doesn't make it move at least a couple ticks makes me wonder about your FPR, or maybe vacuum leaks....

Contrary to popular belief, you can crank fuel pressure +/- 10-15 psi and it won't make much more than a .6-.7 AFR change.

50# injector chips are a crap shoot, as there is a lot of variance in the injectors people are buying. A lot of people are switching to the 60s for that reason.

While we are on the subject who has carries a good 60# injector. I am pritty sure I am going to change over and go code59 and I want to start gathering parts

Lots of people sell the Mototron 60/65s. Check with some of the board vendors.

Re: Tunning help...

If i let it idle for a while ( 15min ), the plugs become black, after driving for about 20 min, they clean up nicely.
I think i need to lean out the idle abit??

Re: Tunning help...

Thanks for reply; I played with it today. It seems to go richer if i turn fp down?? ( 11.5 or so ), went back to 40psi, 12.5 again. Any higher psi, and it seems to get wimpee.

Can some one help me set idle to 14.4 - 14.7 afr ??

Re: Tunning help...

You need chip editing equipment to solve this.

IMO, the decision to make the 50# Ultimates "open loop" fueling was a big mistake. Open loop by its vary nature is not universal and doesn't seem appropriate for a "one size fits all" chip like the Ultimate. I just started my vortec heads and cam swapped motor last week, and I loaded the 50# Ultimate "Vortec Heads and Cam" and it worked very well. HOWEVER, I first had to change it from open loop to Closed Loop (1 click of the mouse), otherwise it would go lean at idle and stall.

I bet that same "1 click" from open loop to closed loop would make a world of difference on your truck.

Re: Tunning help...

If anyone would be interested in schooling me on how an ultimate chip stores multiple bins, and/or what size eeprom flash chip could replace it, I could make some changes for you. Ive never personally seen an ultimate chip, but I do own a moates switcher that I use in my Vette. Do they function similarly? Im in Lakeland Florida just about 1-2 hours away from you right off I-4. My schedule is tight though. Too many projects and twin 9yr olds :D

moates and ostrich work on the same principle. If you can program switcher the ultimate is easy.

Re: Tunning help...

Thanks guys
The problems are; I removed factory O2 sensor and cut the wires ( have wb in its place )
I also know d**k about ECMs !
The truck runs great ( other that rich at idle ). If I can get you guys to help me fix this,i'll be great ( I will pay you for your time )
One last thing, can i remove the ecm and bring it to someone, or do i have to bring the truck?

Thanks again...

Re: Tunning help...

It would be better if you brought the truck. I guess you have the wideband running, and simulating the narrow band to feed the ecm? For me to change your chip, you would need to have a replacement falsh chip. Find out what size chip you need and buy it. They are usually about $8-$15 shipped. I dont have a UV eraser to balnk your ultimate for a reburn, and this way leaves your ultimate unharmed anyway.

Without coming to me, you would need to read your ultimate chip and send me the file and a blank chip. Tell me what your idle RPM and idle KPA are, and what the AFR currently is while idling. I can guess at how much to change the VE, burn it and send it back. I could also enable closed loop if you want to try it that way. My Ty has stock injectors so I have no way of testing the changes.
