Need Some Proffesional Advice.

The trans in my 95 S10 Blazer, and my 95 Astro are both smoking. Checked it for leaks and didn't find any, both shift great and don't seem to slip, flushed both out but no help, so I've come to the conclusion that the torque converters are slipping, causing the fluid to overheat and spew out of the vent tube. My question is, both of these vehicles are old and kind of crappy, but I need to get another year out of them, so do I put just a converter in them and hope for the best. Or should I pull em and get em rebuilt? The trans in my Sy is also slipping, but that's another story. I think I'm gonna start buying manuals :rotf:

Thanks,
Dewey

Re: Need Some Proffesional Advice.

If they were using a PWM signal to engage the torque converters back in 95 then I bet its your TCC PWM valve bore. They tend to wear allowing fluid to leak and greatly decreasing TCC apply pressure. This allows the TC to slip and usually overheats the tranny thus throwing a code and causing harsh shifts(ECM maxes out line pressure).

There are two bores in the valve body that tend to wear this way. The TCC PWM valve and the AFL valve. Sonnax sells a kit for both which is basically a sleve and a new plunger. You do need a special reamer to install each though. I had a local tranny shop do mine. Cost $200 and no problems since.
