why didn't you take the shell off to do this? makes cleanup way easier. Looks a lot better!

:

Solvent, then hose, then compressed air, then carb cleaner, then compressed air.

Also, the whole center section had plugged holes, and wrapped with duct tape about 10 times.

So yeah, it got cleaned. :)

Awesome pics Dig.

What kinda bits did you use? Be a nice writeup to use for the vault.

For the cast side, I got a set of Chinese (Grip brand) carbide cutters.
I used a round-cone shape one... I'll try to snap some pics.

I finished the cast stuff with a 120 grit sanding drum in the dremel... just to work the major rough spots out of it. That side of the turbo isn't as fussy as the other one.

The aluminum stuff I just used sanding drums in the dremel. There isn't a lot of material in the inlet, otherwise I would have turned the carbide cutters loose on it.

60 grit 1/2" drums work fine for the heavy material removal on aluminum. Then I went down to 220 to do the final shaping, then finished by hand with a chunk of 320 to get the semi-polish finish.

Low speed, with the dremel does the trick without making big gouges. Make yourself a template for the radius, draw a small circle on some beer cardboard.

any guesstimate on the performance benefits of the inlet mod?

i've performed the exhaust inlet/oulet mods and i believe it was well worth the effort.

Hard to say. Every little bit helps, IMO.

I've got the intercooler and TB done up this way, also... smooth the whole path.
