Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

They can be pretty quick, my buddy had a non turbo one with intake and exhaust and it pulled on my stock 3000GT pretty good, what do you have done to your typhoon? If it is a Twin turbo....all he has to do is get a intake, exhaust, and a ecm with a "tune" and they can have 300 - 350WHP. I have driven a stock one with exhaust at my last job and it gets loose through first and second  , it was a blast to drive, but a PITA to do a timing belt service on. It all depends on what you have done to your truck and what he has done to his car.....

race him from a dig and keep it short..that simple.

ditto.

there are some pretty fast TT's around but not many. I would imagine that its b/c they break easy...

the 2nd gen (assuming youre talking about z32) the TT run stock at 300hp RWD, so unless hes got lots of money in the car, you should take him from a dig. if hes got the NA should be a massacre

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

Just boost launch on him and get it over with. That'll keep him quite for a while, but only take it up to like 60-70....lol

IMO non turbo 300zx=slow balls. TT's are quick, and with mods could keep up with a syty, but stock you should beat him.

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

I had a '90 naturally aspirated Z and you should stomp him up to 90mph. I rode in a friend's Turbo Z and it really didn't feel that much faster than mine. Nice cars.... nice cruisers.

Performance*
*as reported in "Car and Driver", February 1992
Acceleration
0-30 mph: 2.0 sec.
0-60 mph: 5.0 sec.
0-100: 13.1 sec.
0-120: 19.5 sec.
Quarter Mile Time: 13.7 sec.
Quarter Mile Speed: 102 mph

If your both your vehicals are stock, then depending on how far you go it might be close.

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

That would have to be a TT, and they didnt come out til 93, so I'm guessing preproduction numbers. I've riddin in a few and don't remember them being that fast.

Yeah maybe not, because I just found this one :rotf:

Top Speed 155.0 mph / 249.4 kph
0 - 30 mph 2.0 seconds
0 - 60 mph 5.5 seconds
0 - 100 mph 14.6 seconds
0 - ¼ mile 14.1 seconds
Lateral Acceleration 0.91g
EPA City / Hwy 18 / 24 mpg

Either way, probably be close. You should've bought a Sy, 400lbs makes all the difference in the world

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

Just FYI, the TT 300ZX came out in 1990 when the Z32 debuted. I know this because I went with my dad to test drive one. He ended getting the 2+2 because my mom bitched at him about not having 4 seats in the turbo. The TTs run hard though. Couple years back I was at the track and there were a group of them together. They were all minor bolt on cars and the slowest one was running 13.6 at like 105. The fastest one was running the same times but trapping like 110. They were on street tires so there was no traction.

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

You live in Ft. Lupton, the roads arent that great and I am shocked to see a Ty out there. (I hunt the S.Platte out there). Find a little bit of a rough but not real dangerous strech of road, line them up and let her rip with a 10 lbs launch. If your truck is even stock with a good tune and well taken care of, you should eat him alive. We have had two of those TT 300s and three of the 3000gt VR4s in the fam, and none of them could whop on a ty in the 1/4.

Make sure you are running 100%, then show that idiot your tail lights. Hell, I'll run him in my rusty-ass Ty

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

I raced one with 280rwhp and got him by a good 6 cars all the way up to 100 with very light mods on my truck. ultimate chip, cat back, ic pump/switch, cold air, afpr, and a few other parts. If you build at least 8 lbs you should be able to hand him his ass if your truck is running healthy.

300's TT or not are one of the lamest cars Ive ever come across. I raced a modded and raped his sorry ass. Wish I had gotten it on tape. The guy was cool atleast but you could tell he thought he was hot shit. Anyway, shmoooke his ass.

Re: Ty Vs. 300 zx

The Z32's came out in late 89. I own a 5 Speed 91 TT. 141k on the ticker, My best time, bone stock bald tires, was 14.1 at around 100. First time ever at the track. With minor mods the Z cars run good, they hook great as far as a rwd car goes. I think a race with a stock ty would be close, but the Sy feels much faster than the Z, but the Z would eat it alive from a roll.
