Help concerning Ostrich,3bar chip, and DM

I finally got around to installing the ostrich, and have a couple questions some of you guys might be able to answer. Something's off at some point either with the install or the DM software, as my DM run has the spark advance hanging out at 34.1 with no knock at all at idle or during the run. took it down the street at low boost, < 8 lbs, spark adv. lowers to 14ish, but absolutely no knock? I am switching from Ult chip, knock sensor worked before.

All stock aside from AFPR, Walbro. I've gotten a bin that should be close to what I was running before (ie something like T116-17). Got the ECM/ALDL defs for 2/3bar. Fuel pressure at 40lbs on fuel rail while truck is idling.

If anyone has a stock 3bar bin, I'd like to try it to see if it has the same problem.

The DM can be found here:

its pretty long, i was trying to check everything out before getting on the gas.

I am gonna double check the connections to the ecm tom.

Any suggestions?

I dont understand what your problem is? The link you posted doesnt work for me. If its the Spark Adv youre concerned about its normal to see those settings.

you have to right click -> save. I guess what I'm saying is its too perfect - i would expect to see some kind of knock count, instead, it reads zero.

heres a screenshot.

Did you put the MEMCAL back on the moates board correctly? Ie, right orientation?
Not shorting against the case somehow?

Knock counts are 0... that would suggest a hardware (ie, memcal) problem.

.uni file no worky... DM says it's corrupt. Looks like it's missing most of its frames.

I got unrecognized file as well. Turn DM on and tap the Knock sensor with a hammer. Dont beat it ofcourse but you should get anywhere from 1-4.5 volts on DM if its working. If you do get that voltage, turn up the boost man.

i'll give the memcal a look tomorrow. initially, i installed the memcal and wasnt getting fuel, so i reversed it.

I reuploaded the DM file in a zipped folder:
http://www.willyson.com/syclone/04162k7_run1_low_boost.zip

if it doesnt work i'll upload it to another server.

I'll also give this a try if the memcal is seated properly. I suppose the knock sensor could go bad? :dunno:

Yep, happened to Abe's truck. KS went bad and he never even half a degree of knock. He replaced it and still never reached one degree but did show a smudge here and there. HAHA, you could also unplug your boost control solenoid and over boost the hell out of it, that should tell you if you have knock or not.

Correct MEMCAL positioning - white end of the MEMCAL goes on the pins.

Possible that it's a bad sensor... MEMCAL position is more likely, though. One of the legs on the ESC part of the MEMCAL could be broken too... try another memcal if you have one.

no white end on the memcal from what I can see; there is a orange marker dot on one end.

# on it is: 4195 AYBN 4175

according to chitownsyty.net, it should be good. I'll get datamaster hooked up and see if I can get some knock (sounds strange). If I run DM cranking the truck, I should see some knock counts, if the memcal is in correct?

Re: Help concerning Ostrich,3bar chip, and DM

alright i got it straightened out. turbodig was correct -> i put the memcal in bass ackwards  I decided to try the memcal alone in the slot without the g1, it had rivets so it could only go one way. checked the DM, voila! 3000 knock count (from cranking). so i put the memcal in the g1 exactly like it came out of the ecm, took it for a ride and gotta few more knocks at 8lbs, 0 deg however so its working as it should. thanks for everyone's help!

Glad to see its worked out. More often than not, its something simple that was overlooked.

What did that ECM case ever do to you?

If you take the blue part off the MEMCAL, it all fits right in there.

I will give you a piece of advice about the ostrich, also.
(This goes for any emulator, really)

That ribbon cable connector on the ECM side (the part that plugs into the prom socket) is fragile as glass. Anything you can do to keep that cable from getting bumped/pulled will make your life easier down the road.

yea...about that...i'll just say that the previous owner had a KB chip :squint: that should explain the case. i'll be carefull putting it back in, i taped around the case so its no longer sharp.

You can find a junkyard case, if you want to fix it. Any 730 or 749 ECM case will work.
Bazillions of cars with 730s.
