Probably need a different plan.

AWD is tough on trannies. A manual trans in an AWD application will take a beating (as will the clutch). The NV3500 + V8 power + AWD = Busted NV3500's.

Not to be mean or anything, it's just a fact. The NV3500 is marginal behind a V8. That's why its only available behind the 4.8L. The 6.0l manual is the NV4500.

I don't know of a tough durable easy overdrive manual trans solution. T56 isn't easy, and I'm not sure if it'd be durable. A T10 or Muncie 4 speed might be durable enough and easy, but you give up the extra gears. The NV4500 or heavier might be tough and durable enough, but they don't shift all that well, and who needs that granny first?

Converting from 4x4 to AWD will probably require a transfer case change (to an AWD or on-demand style 4wd box).

This guy did a V-8 AWD T56 with a Syty Drivetrain:

Wow that's a long beast, the rear driveshaft is probably 10 inches long and the front driveshaft is 12 feet! Nice work though, must be hell on that drivetrain launching though...

You can't boost launch a standard like you can an automatic. And you have to be careful when you do drop the clutch or like they said, you'll leave parts everywhere.

I don't have any contact info.

That setup is a T56 6 speed. Basically, you need a LT1 T56 6 speed setup, with some special pieces. Instead of a normal tailshaft housing they've swapped in a C5 / C6 transaxle tailshaft housing. To duplicate this setup you'll need one of those. You can't just use the C5 / C6 T56 because they're set up for a torque tube and I don't think the input shaft would work in a conventional clutch / pressure plate / flywheel / bellhousing configuration. Behind the C5 / C6 transaxle tailshaft housing, you'll need to fabricate (from steel / alum / titanium / gold / whatever) the adapter that mounts the Tcase, holds the shifter, and mounts the transmission. You may be able to mount the shifter at a different location (one of the forward inspection plates), but I'm not sure of that. You'd need to check with somebody who is really familiar with T56's, like Keisler (sp?) or Rockland Standard Gear.

I would bet that there aren't too many templates for that adapter. Most folks who I know who do that kind of thing would only have rough sketches to deal with (no templates or CAD drawings). Bolt patterns and such like that would probably be transfer punched, not measured, drawn, templated, etc (because that takes ALOT more time than just building it).

But maybe somebody has some contact info.

If not, how are your fabrication skills?

Well, if you wanted to do this and keep a manual, dump that NV3500 and get a T-5. G-Force builds great boxes. Use a stock S10 4wd box, have it rebuilt to their specs, and then throw it in and you're good to go

I have an extra transfer case out of a 92 s-10 selectable 4wd just in case yours is blown up already $50.00 plus shipping and its yours. I can put it on a pallet and ship it to you.

A stock World Class T-5 is rated for 300ft-lbs....The non world class is even lower (which is the only T-5 the S10 got). WC T-5's came in 5.0 Mustangs and I think 5.0L 3rd gen f-body's (5.7's which were only rated at like 245hp were only available with an automatic, that should tell you something about the durability of a stock T-5).

The G-force claims their T-5 will handle 500ft-lbs in a 3300lb car on drag radials. Wonder what they'd say about 4 good street tires and AWD? Maybe you should ask them....

The T56 is a whole lot stouter stock (bigger internals, wider spacing of main & countershaft, etc) and can be made to live behind 900 hp (in a 2wd application). I talked with one of the guys at Rockland Standard (I think it was George), and he didn't seem to think that it'd take 500 ft-lbs and AWD for all that long (assuming the clutch lived). A decent 383 SBC should be capable of 450 to 500 ft-lbs without working all that hard.

I'm not trying to discourage you from building your dream truck, just want you to know that it's been discussed here (try a search, I promise it's been discussed) and there are significant drawbacks (like a high likelyhood of expensive broken parts leading to significant checkbook damage, etc) to an AWD manual transmission setup. There is a guy on here with a T56 equipped Syclone, but he knows the tranny is a weak link and drives it accordingly.
