Help from our Canadian members/shipment lost?

Campbell auto has built a 4.3 for me and its ready for the dyno. I shipped out 2 packages on march 13th.(airmail parcel post) with some of my parts so it can be dyno'ed and tuned. 1 package had my headers in it and it made it there on the 23rd of march. Another package containing my upper plenum, cac, distributor, coil, and throttle body hasnt made it yet. Tracking shows it made it to canada on the 19th and thats the last record I have of it.

us postal cant help me cause its out of the country,it seems there is no contact for canadian post and a claim has to be mailed only ???

Any advice on what I should do? How long should I wait or is there someone I can contact to track this package down better? Should I just purchase replacement parts to get my engine together and just resell my old parts if they do turn up?

Winter is over and I want to drive my truck, any advise would be appreciated :(

I have told guys and told guys, don't use the US post office for expensive items. It's not worth the savings if they lose $1000 worth of parts. Use UPS or FedEx. UPS is not that much more and you can track it with the same entity through the delivery.

Since you have already done the deed, call USPS(the number on your receipt) and open an inquiry. They will give you the "we need 3 months to find it crap". Let them finish and then ask them who handles their deliveries once it hits the border in Canada. Ask them for the website. On your customs form at the top will be a code. VRG.......... could be anything but most seem to start with that. Go to the company that handles the delivery from the border on and put this number in THEIR tracking system. This will open another page that will have THE COMPANY's tracking number for the shipment and it will have the appearance of the tried and true UPS look tracking where it is at. USPS will tell you that's not a tracking number and you should've paid more for a different service, ignore them as they are stupid and they are to place blame on you with a smile. My recommendation is not to use USPS for overseas or out of the country deliveries unless it's something you can afford to have them lose or not be able to track.

Once it leaves US it goes to into Canadaposts hands. There is a downside to UPS, They charge an arm and a leg and hell even your first born in brokerage fees ontop of the taxes, while USPS/Canadapost just charge the tax. I really hate shipments thru UPS, Fedex is better between the 2.

I sent a shifter cable to canada. $18. Same as it costed to send one to Wisconsin. To each his own. I'm just telling you what I know based on experience. You do whatever you want. Remember, $1000 worth of goodies getting lost will make you think twice.

I'm not trying to knock ya.. just giving the perspective from the receiver of over the US boarder UPS shipments. To me, I would stay away from UPS like the plague unless I had no choice. Fedex is much more shipment friendly (brokerage fee wise) to Canada compared to UPS.

As for this issue, you are going to have to deal with USPS, which its their job to contact Canadapost.

I should be more clear, when you ship thru these companies, they are comparable in charges... the difference comes down to when the package is delivered and the receiver has to pay all these stupid charges. Where is our free trade???

I'm not saying you have to use UPS. I actually said UPS or FedEX. That way it stays with the same company all the way to the door. The US post office will tell you it NOT their job to contact them. Been there done that. They'll contact them, "possibly" but you have to give them "3 months". You better trust who you send something to because they could get you for 2 shipments and claim they never got the first one and you wouldn't find out till months later...yes I've been down that road too.

For the shipper, its no different.... the difference comes down to when the package is delivered and the receiver has to pay all these stupid charges. Where is our free trade???

Why did you send your engine half way across North America to get rebuilt? I want to make it clear that i am not am not flaming Campbell Auto, i am planning to get the same done by them in the future....but i only live a day away. My guess is that it's tied up at customs, i sent some atv parts to Michigan and it took 4 weeks!! It was stuck at the border for over 2 weeks. Do you have a phone number for Canada Post?

Re: Help from our Canadian members/shipment lost?

I had some parts lost through USPS Canada and it took forever to get resolved. I had sent it ground, at the time they wouldn't even look at my claim for 90 days.

In the future if I was selling something I would send it UPS. I sent something via Fedex from an ebay sale and was charged back custom 6 months later, because the buyer flaked out on his custom's bill. ($25 on a $100 item) I guess fedex uses an outside service for customs and sends them a bill later. I heard with UPS you don't get your items unitl you pay customs.

I didnt ship my engine. they built one up and will be eventually shipping it to me. I had to ship some odds and ends to them for dyno reasons. There isnt any machines shops around here that I would trust doing the 4 bolt conversion and misc. machine shop services. I wanted to use a company that has done lots of these and I could trust. I talked with Mark and nolan and they are very pleasant to deal with and knowledgeable about the sy/ty world. Anyway I appreciate all the advise and I will be making some calls this week.

I have sold alot on ebay and shipped many things to canada w/usps of coarse the first problem I have is with my most valuable items, freaking unreal man!

Re: Help from our Canadian members/shipment lost?

i've sold alot of items on e-bay, shipping them with both u.p.s and postal.Postal was usually cheaper but took longer, sometimes items took 4 weeks to get there. Most larger items i will ship u.p.s just because it's easier to track.. Not sure on what to do for you there. If you want to get the Canadian postal phone #'s , try the net, don't they have e-mail also?

Thanks man. I called canadian post today but only got a voice mail due to the holiday.

I used the link george supplied for tracking. I put in the tracking # of the package that Did make it to campbell just to see how detailed it was. I see now If a package leaves customs there will be a record of it. So the delayed package must still be in customs for some unknown reason. strange how both packages arrived at the same exact minute (9:13am) yet only one was released, wtf?
I will call tomorrow again and hopefully track down a human that can get this ball rolling,I want my truck  spring is here and there is yuppies and ricers to spank!

Anything can happen with the postal service and UPS/Fedex/DHL are almost as bad........I did say almost.

Let me know and I can see what I can do from this end with any info you get.

BTW, the engine is done (turned out great) and most of all the other goodies are here, and the rest should be here very soon.............if they don't get lost in shipping. LOL

We'll get it on the dyno as soon as we can and get some nice numbers for you.

well. I talked to customer service and they feel its sitting at customs for some unknown reason. she told me the customs departments are back logged 1-3 days and if they decided to open and inspect the package I have to figure a weeks delay but that still doesnt explain why the package has been there over 3 weeks now. appaerently I have to sit and wait according to them.

I got a phone number to the montreal customs dept after some pleading just to find out that number wont work out of canada. I called back for another # that would work and the genius there said I dont think they can be reached outside of the usa. so maybe someone from campbell can call???
heres the # 1-800-461-9999 my item/tracking # is CP076061543US Thanks for everones help!
