How much sound deadener did you use?

For those that have stripped your interior and installed Dynamat, Brown Bread, Peel & Seal or any of the other "mat type" sound damping materials, how many square feet did it take to do one layer and what did you cover with it ( whole truck w/ roof, doors and all or just the whole floor pan?).

I want to do the whole floor from the fire wall to the tail gate and the sides up to the roof and was trying to figure how many sq. feet to order of the mat. Gonna spray the roof Road Kill liquid.

Thanks!

Re: How much sound deadener did you use?

to be honest i dont remember how much i used, i have a Sy did all the interior metal, doors, floor, havent done the roof yet, but have some left to use on it, my truck prob has more like 2-3 layers on the doors and floor pan and rear cab wall. I would say 100 sq ft would do a whole typhoon more than 1 layer in critical areas. i used edead, and have had good experience with the product, ive done 5 complete cars/trucks with this product and have prob 100 sq ft laying around for the next one.

Re: How much sound deadener did you use?

Thanks for the input, I was thinking around 100 sq. feet but not sure for a Ty. I'm gonna use Stinger Roadkill because I'm a AMP dealer and my cost is about what the other stuff is retail. Sound damping out hear is an impossible sell in my location for a lot of reasons but one big factor is that the president of one of the local car clubs who "knows everybody" out here, paid another shop for edead v1 a while back and within a few months it started peeling. edead pulled the "bad install / didn't prep properly" and wouldn't stand behind it. Problem is, I know the owner of the other shop and was there when it was installed cause it was " a big deal" for these local island boys.Any way, I also sold him all the wax and grease remover through my Auto / Industrial supply store and I know it was installed the right way. The short of it is the customer bad mouthed him, his shop and the product in general (even though he got a refund and the edead removed to boot!) from here to Hawaii and no one will consider the install of damping matt at this point right now or the cost to do it.

My rep at AMP says if the Roadkill peels, he will replace it or refund me so I guess I can't loose other than the labor time. I'm sure the edead v2 is better but I have heard of some problems with it also and just don't want to chance because of our sub-tropical climate and heat / humidity here.

I think TYROD and a few others have done Ty's, maybe they can chime in on the actual sq. feet for a Ty but I think your prolly real close on the 100 sq. ft.

Re: How much sound deadener did you use?

when I did my bel air I used over 100sq feet. Think it was around 120-130. I wire brushed the metal and used a rubberized paint and then the db mat. The sound difference was night and day.

rubberized undercoating paint.

DB mat. Sorry for the bad pics.

Re: How much sound deadener did you use?

i dont live in a tropical area by any means, but my edead v2 hasnt started peeling at all, and i didnt prep all that well, some brake/parts cleaner and a rag, let it dry then peel and stick, and roll with the special wooden tool. No problems as of yet, but there must be a common theme about sound deading material, most guys i know wont pay for it either, even tho it makes a world of diff, esp if you are adding a lot of watts.

I have 150 sq foot in the syclone interior and rhino liner on the bottow of the cab, but I tend to over do things

Not anywhere near enough  ... I think I used about 110 sq feet in my Ty, and it's noisy ... almost all engine noise though... probably just need to change my muffler. I used about 45 sq feet in the GT, and it's bedlined underneath (not rhinoliner, I'm cheap and I didn't take the cab off the chassis)

Was the rubberized paint just the stuff that you buy in spray cans? If not what did you use and what did you spray it with?

Thanks,

Re: How much sound deadener did you use?

There is another type of sound deadner for diff types of noise. Road noise and wind noise can be reduced with sound deadner like this edead

12 rolls of peel n seal and I still have to finish the driver's side floorboard. 6" wide roll of 15'. 90 square feet or so.

Heck, my GT doesn't run or roll and my Ty doesn't have all the bugs worked out yet.... it's from one work-in-progress to another ;) ... Ken still has more stainless in his truck than I do though
