Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

got a pleasant suprise today. my Z51 fronts arrived BUT, the order got screwed up and, as luck would have it, i got a set of Z51 rear rotors and caliper brackets in place of my front calipers. this is actually not bad, as i wanted to take measurement off of the rear rotors and brakes in hopes that i can get rear adapters made so that i can have Z51 rotors all around.

here's a pic of the front Z51 rotors/caliper brackets (on left), rear Z51 rotor/caliper bracket (top right), and rear LS1 rotor/caliper bracket (bottom right)

CAUTION: the Z51 fronts require, at least, 18" wheels

this is the LS1 rear (12") laying on top of the Z51 rear (13")

this the the Z51 caliper bracket (left) next to the LS1 caliper bracket (right).

anyone want to make the adapter?;)

measurements taken from rear rotor face to rear hat surface

Z51= 1.647
LS1= 2.189

Sweetness, thanks alot.

Looks like alittle over a half inch less offset on the vette rotors.

which would mean with the stock axles and the backing plates bolted to the flanges the rotors will be that much away from fully fitting around the parking brake shoes......right?

I wonder if it would be possible to have some spacers made to go between the axle flange and backing plate to make up the diff, or you could just get some new axles made that are shorter, on a moser custom axle order form i have there is a dimension they want that could be shortened the needed diff and the rotors will bolt right on. Then you shouldnt need any spacers on the caliper bracket, as i have seen vette rear calipers with f-body backing plates and rotors, or they may have been C5 rear rotors.

he used the c5 cal bracket. he lost the use of the e-brake....had to turn down the axle flange

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

revised part numbers from Cam's thread. notice that there are different numbers for R/L front calipers.

Z51 Brake Upgrade Part Numbers

89060328 – Brake Rotors (Front)
88964165 - Caliper Front (Right)
88964164 - Caliper Front (Left)
89060211 - Pads (Front)
88964166 - Caliper Bracket (Front)
88955515 - Pin Kit (Front)

89060329 – Rear Brake Rotors
88964167 – Rear Brake Caliper Bracket
88964095 - Pads (Rear)

Per the corvetteforum.com, the pad numbers listed are of a different compound and offer less squeak and dust.

Keep posting up what happens as you move along. I would be sure to let the person fabricating the rear brackets know that there are other people who would potentially pick them up as well.

What size are the Z51 front rotors?

You are awesome for providing this info, btw.

i don't have a fabricator. i'm hoping one of you guys will take on the project

sorry, I missed this question.

Z51 front rotors are 13.4" and rears are 13"

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

Just to be perfectly clear, the C5 brackets will work for the front Z56s, just not the rear, right?

Will the Tahoe z56 brakes outperform the LS1 and C5 packages?

don't know anything about Tahoe Z56s. this thread is only about installing Corvette Z51 front and rears.

the fronts are "bolt on" with the cbrperformance kit. the rears are what we are trying to figure out.

I added the pics you wanted to my gallery.

Keep in mind that where the C5 caliper mount mates to the LS1 backing plate consists of one machined side (C5 caliper mount) & one un-machined side (LS1 backing plate). The machined side on the LS1 backing plate is on the large bolt head & washer side. This is the only way I could get the caliper centered over the rotor.
It could cause uneven pad wear since I don't know how flat the un-machined side is. I will have to drive it and see how it wears. If needed I will then have the LS1 backing plate shaved where it mates with the C5 caliper mount.

So I'm guessing with the 13.4" rotors you will have to have a 18" wheel at a minimum?

That's a apples and oranges type of question. The Tahoe's have a 6-5.5 bolt pattern that wouldn't fit our application in any way. Maybe you ment something else? :dunno:

YES...18" wheels....minimum. sorry for any confusion. i wouldn't expect much in stopping power over the C5 front/ LS1 rear setup.

this, in my case, is ALL about looks.

Oh yeah, it's going to look so badazz

My buddy Cris has a 3 series BMW with 19" wheels on it and its got ( if I remember correctly ) 14.1" rotors on it with 6 piston calipers  I'm just in awh everytime I see it

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

theorectically, if this works for the Z51's, it should work for the Z06 "badazz" 14"/13.5" setup also.

i may be wrong...it's late ":-
