Drivetrain effect on top end.

Try some race gas, then you would know if the knock is false. Also, regardless if it's false or not the computer is pulling 8-9 degrees of timing. That would kill your top end. :2cents:

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

Try it with a muffler. I ran and open pipe without a cat or muffler and the truck ran like crap. Put a muffler and high flow cat and it ran better. Also had the same problem when I used to bracket race with a mustang. It ran its best time with the exhaust hooked up compared to open headers. I think our trucks like just a small amount of back pressure.

I use the Greddy Profec EBC. My boost control is rock solid. Youre right about the knock weather its false or not though. Maybe Ill try Xylene to see if its fuel, which I doubt.

slow ass truck sux balls
fast ass truck kicks ass

your 8KR will cost you about 20HP, i have false knock on my truck too, what keeps me from turning up the boost, it sux.

well, atleast you kill alot of people on the street ;)

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

you need to determine whether your KR is real or not. do you get KR while reving your engine in Park? add some xylene to your tank and see if that changes your KR.

if you decide it's probably fake...you can tune your chip to reject (ie...not react to) the knock based on RPM using the tables in TP:

ESC Attack Rate Vs RPM (F6) - When knock is detected, timing is pulled out at the above rate, versus the RPM shown above. So if you have knock detected at 4800 RPM, it will pull timing out at a rate of 0.36 degrees per millisecond.

ESC Recovery Rate Vs RPM (F7) - Once detonation is not sensed any longer, the timing recovers at the above percentage per second. Notice how slow it is at higher RPM.

use VERY CAUTIOUSLY!!!

just turn off the knock sensor :) no really, put some good 110 in it and run it , if its knocking and its not engine audible knock then you know its false, then just do what ashman said, i didnt runa knock sensor until i got rid of all my false knock, but i was always on alky about 5psi and was willing to take the chance of blowing the engine.

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

I plan on getting a few gallons of Xylene this weekend. Ill probably spend all weekend hunting this problem down. If the Xylene doesnt pull it down to near 0 Im going to assume its false and maybe disable the KS and run 15psi and run it a little rich. If it turns out that its false, then Im at a loss cause Ive been working this for atleast a month now. Ive done everything I can think of with no change. Fixed this and fixed that, things would be likely to cause it but still its there. It does not Knock when revving in park or nuetral. Itll knock at 2000-3000RPM with NO boost. Ive already posted about that and did everything I was told to do except for race gas or xylene so IM just gonna try it this weekend and if thats not it im turning the thing off. If I blow my motor then screw it Ill build another one.

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

i would really like to try this myself, alot of build engines are louder and give false knock

this thing will know what sounds your engine makes, and filters the noises that have a pattern, and will show you the uncontroled noises

Just my experience with Xylene. I usually saw a 4-5 degree of reduction knock retard. I tried different mixtures and for me it didn't seem to help any more with any more then ~25% Xylene to gas mixture. I tried as high as 33% Xylene to gas, but it seemed like I was throw $ away. Your results may vary since your at altitude. Also my truck was hard to start when its was cold out, but the tail pipe exhuast smells better ;)

I was going to go 33% myself but I guess Ill go with 25 % instead. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

i also had 13*Kr reving in nuetral, lol and crusing a small blip it would go to 15 or something stupid, i first was my trans lines but fixed all that and dont know where iit came from, now for some reason i dont have any knock cause i turned it back on and get nothing up to 25psi with meth and 92oct.
