Re: F1 style paddle shift install

cool. I'd found the shrifter online before too...but thought it was a tad bulky looking. Myclone, you sure about the paddle shift prob at the track? Lots of new cars have it now - bmw's & merc's especially.

One thing i've thought of doing for mine is getting a steering wheel w/ dual thumb nitrous buttons, but using those buttons as shifters. If someone beats me to this, you must give me credit for it.

Yeah that is a sweet setup, i lkooked into it awhile back, and i have definate plans to put one of these in my GT once i get to that stage.

Also the shifter wont interface with stock OEM electronics, which is really to bad.

Yeah, but keep in mind Im talking about local 1/8 mile podunk tracks that dont see a lot of bimmer or other high end cars. I wondered what they would do if someone wanted to run a car with factory paddle shift stuff and I can only assume that if its obviously a street car/driver they would either A) not have a clue that it has paddle shift in the first place B) let the guy run in foot brake rather than pro class.

Dunno what theyd do if someone like myself arrived with what is obviously a modified street car but it has electronic shift. :dunno:

Now how freakin' cool is THAT  . I've driven a paddle shift Ferrari and it is sweet. I never thought DIY'ers would figure this out so fast for aftermarket....but then again, look what Mega Squirt has managed.
Nice find..................Vinny

I like it. I would not really have a need for this. My question is does it blip the throttle to bring up the RPMS after a downshift like the newer cars with these factory installed?

No, I think that would only be possible on a car that had an electric Throttle Body.

unless you rigged up something w/ the cruise control...you'd prolly need a stronger/quicker servo for it to be effective though.

Only if you want to break something. They way they do the newer transmissions is detune them. You basically get an rpm surge because the trans slowly slips into gear. You don't need to do that with a 4L80/4L60e. If you do that with them, you'll most likely break it similar to doing a neutral drop (flipped sprag from bang shift).

What was the cost of the unit? Any compatability issues with the big stuff 3?
