Trans got sluggish today. (PICS) and update

I was on my way home to pick up my wife. I noticed my trans temps were unusally high, 210*, and they are usually about 170* under normal drivcing conditions. I wasnt even really driving that fast, not in boost or anything. So I got home and she had to get ready so I left to go test out my new Ultimate chip. As I am driving, it starts to ehat up pretty good. Almost to 250*. I got stuckat a light and when it turned green, it didnt want to go much. It felt real sluggish. Any idea what s going on?

Took a pic of the pan today. This is after maybe 5-10K. To the right you will see little round things, those are dirt/rock particles from taking the pan off.

Re: Trans got sluggish today.

something is broken causing it to slip and get hot. I had this happen once when a cooler line got pinched. too bad it had already gotten hot and glazed the clutches and band.

Well thats not good. Its wierd, I took it out to a parking lot and it seems like its kind of intermittent. I couldve also sworn I felt something in the pedal just before this started happening. In the parking lot heres what happens, when its sluggish, you let off the gas (its at light throttle) and you can feel it like it goes into gear, then no matter how hot it it, it takes off like normal. Guess Ill have to pop it back out. Any thoughts on what could ve broken? Umbrella seal? pump? Valve body? Too hard to say?

hard to say but it should be obvious when it comes out. you could do a pressure test before you snatch it to eliminate some thing before hand. if any metal or debris goes thru the pump you will need a new one. I have mine machined to less than 1 thou tolerance and they work beautiful but you cant put any crap thru them.

So I took the pan off today and I took a pic. Its psoted in the first post above if you havent seen it yet. Not sure whats going on but its kinda looking like Im going to have to take it out. It still shifts fine when its not being a slug. I have taken notice that if you let off the gas and get back on it right away, it drives just fine. I took the valve body off and everythign else around it. Tonight I am going to check all the valves and make sure none are sticking and things like that.

Valve body passes the inspection, looks great. I think things are starting to point to a possible bad convertor?

That is a LOT of crud. Most likely it came out of the converter or the cooler or both. Please tell me you flushed the cooler and flow tested it before hooking everything up to it....and you used an old TC I bet.

No, this was a NEW TC. I did flush the lines a few times. Even ran good fluid through into a bucket. What do you think of the sluggish part? And the heat problem under normal driving?

probably that 3000 stall TC that turned out to be a 2600 in my truck!

On a lighter note, nice tranny pan!

Where did you get the converter?
You realize that just changing boost levels can affect what the converter stalls at. Boost valve size, engine output, everything affects it. Just because it stalled at 3000 in one guys truck does NOT mean it will do that in yours. Just letting you know I doubt if you got screwed or lied to. It's just the nature of the beast....and just to let you know also, if you are stalling the truck up checking the stall and one of your rear tires start moving, the test is invalid. Have someone watch from the outside to let you know if they see on moving. If it is, forget doing a stall test.
