chattering

im thinkin its the torque convertor. starts up and instantly starts chattering. wont shift into any gear. when it went out it was abouty 1/4 pedal on the gas 1st into 2nd never made it into 2nd. wont go in gear at all. one night i got on the gas it almost felt like it slipped going into 3rd gear then a small chattering sound started. any ideas?

You could've broken a component inside the converter or broken the input shaft on the input drum.

sounds like a converter to me. i had a hughes last about 6 months and the exact same thing happened to me. its easy to see with the tranny out. i cleaned out all the lines and put in a better converter and solved the problem. my tranny is stock and i thrash it daily. still no problems... you should be fine.
