brake upgrade question

Yes I drive a Typhoon.
Is there any larger diameter rotor/brake kits out there that do not require
cutting of the spindles. I don't mind cutting them but would rather not.

Re: brake upgrade question

No, its basically impossible because the spindle have the stock caliper brackets molded in. The stock spindle limit you to the stock sized rotors.

You could just bolt a bracket onto the stock brackets, but it'd be too much work and not reliable.
:2cents: - get some spindles from a boneyard.... cheap and then you can keep some uncut if thats what you'd prefer

The spindle molded-in brackets would intefere because they curve into the rotor.

Thanks:tup:
That makes my decision easier.
As you both already know the stock brakes on these trucks suck!
They are down right scary at times.

I'm looking into getting the bears front and back.
Anyone know of a place to get the best price? I've been
calling around and found that some places are charging $100-$200
more than others

Re: brake upgrade question

Should I get the one piece Baer rotors or two piece? What's the difference?

Do the C5 or C6 brake upgrade. Call CBR and they will set you up. I just did it on my truck it they look awesome...............and I'm sure they will work well too, as the stockers from 120mph at the track were no fun!

I agree with the CBR C-5 kit. I did them on my Sy and love them. Cross drilled and vented rotors are $55 a piece from GM!!! Calipers are easily found on E-Bay. The rest of the parts you need are listed on the instructions fom CBR and can be purchased from GMpartsdirect.com. In total it cost me less than $600 total.

Re: brake upgrade question

And you can always send the spindle to CBR for the mod, if you choose.
Turn around is a week and they do a great job...just increases the price of the upgrade some

does the cbr brakes make the wheels stick out any farther than stock?
nope, no difference that way. they are awful tight in the 16" rims though. Fits, but it's tight. Your spare WILL NOT fit over the LS1 brakes. need a gto spare

I know this is an old thread but, I thought the C-5's only fit on 17" or larger wheels?

$600 fro the fronts right? Or is that the whole kit? I've been eyeing a C5 Brake kit for a long time but I figure it's gonna touch 4 digits when it's all said and done.

I ordered all C6 front brake parts with the upgraded Z51 rotor (13.4" x 1.26" and cross drilled) and a set of C5 brackets from Chris at CBR.

All the brakes part brand new from GM were $557.50 shipped, the C5 kit from CBR was $229 shipped.

Re: brake upgrade question

98 and newer 4x4 brakes have dual piston calipers, and 11" rotors. direct spindle swap.

rears are 11 1/2" and fit under 15 wheels.

What do you mean direct spindle swap, as in they bolt up?
I thought I have to cut the spindle ears or something and get a bracket

About the Price, C6s sound awesome but C5s would be cheaper I'm guessing?

Does anyone have corvette rears?
I'm hoping to set the blazer up with C5s all around since I have the wheels to match.
I'll probably give CBR a call tomorrow.
