J H C!!! Now what!!!!

This is the second time in a week this has happend to me. Just driving along minding my own business and the truck stalls while driving. Happened to me Saturday and I replaced the IGN MOD. When you try to start it a but load of steamy unburned fuel comes out the tail pipe. Im assuming theres no spark because of how strong this smoke smells like unburned fuel and its probably spraying out the fuel in a hot motor and that has to be why its steaming Ild imagine. If I let it sit for 1/2 hour or so itll start right back up and be fine. When I installed my new IGN MOD I put the grease on it and everything. Is there somethiong else that could be causing this?

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

this might sound goofy but check your spark plugs. had a suburban at work the other day that had the same symptoms and it ended up that the number 7 plug was grounding out cause it was cracked. might be worth looking into

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

I thought of plugs too when I was reading this. Either look into what Swoop said or check to see what gap your running.. Maybe your blowing out the spark and its loading up on fuel and causing this problem.. :dunno:

GAP is at 27. Its wierd cause theres no warning at all, no flutter, bogging, stuttering nothing. Just dies. Im pretty sure its not a plug cause you can starty it on 5 cylinders (dont ask me how I knwo).

Are you running headers??? I had the same problem, it turned out to be a crack in the wire boot and it was arching off the header.......

Gap seems a little close for your mods. I run mine at 28 with the Alky. I'd start by opening that to 32. Then definately check your wires and make sure there are no cracks!!

Gap has been this way for 6 months with no problems. Checked and rechecked wires and plugs and nothing. Have 2 codes, 45 & 35. Ive been having these codes for a while now and dont think this is the problem. If the ESC circut wasnt working right or had a short, would it always throw a code or not necassarily?

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

Have you put into consideration your MAP sensor? When they start to go its tellin the ECM theres not enough vacuum and it overfuels like crazy to make up for it which is also a problem thats come through our shop. Since you got an ultimate and a 3 bar map you might wanna check and make sure a wire isnt chaffing or something along those lines since its intermittent.

TYTILIDIE, PLEASE get a log of your truck..datamaster, tunerpro, or scannerpro.

as much as you race, i'm sure some of the gurus would love to use you as a SCIENCE PROJECT.

i'm sure the answer is probably in it somewhere.

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

My Ty did this same thing many years ago. FPR was going bad. It made FP skyrocket because it wasn't letting it return to the tank like it was supposed to. It coincidently burnt the pump up as well:rant:

Do like they said, Datamaster and get some fuel pressure readings. Also check your oil, after it sits, it starts up because all the gas has run down the cylinder walls and into the oil pan. This will also remove lubrication on the cylinder walls and eventually your rings will dig into the block. Get 'r fixed.

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

Well, I think I found the problem. Ive had my ECM on the floor for a while now with the chip exposed. Yesturday I went to pick it up and the truck died immedeatly. I got it fired back up and it would shut down everytime I wiggled it. Then to my wondering eyes appeared out of the darkness none other than a friggin gum wrapper. I thought no way. I checked the wrapper with my OHM meter and theres not a whole lot of resistance at all in it so it very well couldve been the problem. Ive driven the crap out of it since then and havent had it happen once yet. We'll see what happens.

Re: J H C!!! Now what!!!!

how about the oilpressure sending unit? our trucks have that safety feature right? no oil press. no spark?

I use an aftermarket gauge. No more stock oil pressure sending unit. Its not even there. Im pretty sure it was the gum wrapper. Atleast I hope. I made a new DM cable to where I can unplug the board and am having problems getting it to work so Im out DM til I get that figured out.

I know this is an old post..but, it just shows us all..sometimes the problems we have in life, are the most simplest to resolve. A gum wrapper!! Oh My God!!! :rotf:
