Rear Seat Area Speaker Enclosures

Has anybody found a good speaker enclosure for this area or made something custom? The stock speakers sound like crap and the enclosure isn't deep enuff to mount a good speaker in there. What did you guys come up with? Post some links and/or pics for me. I've got the rest of the truck figured out - just not that back seat area. Thanx in advance.

Dennis what are you planning to be doing in the back seat? You do realize it will fold down, and an air matress does fit right?

They made, maybe still do adaptors that give another 1" of depth and let you run a 6 x9".

This is how lazy I am... I supposedly have Clarion 6x9s in my back seat enclosures... I've owned the truck since '02 and still haven't looked.

I'll take a look tonight and if they are anything other than factory, I'll snap some pics so you can see what the previous owner did.

I just cut the metal in my two door blazer.. You get about another 1.5 inches that way.. You should probably seal things back up if you do cut the metal.. proper way would be to weld recessed metal back in there.. I would prolly just glass it...

I'm not so sure that I would do this in a Typhoon though.. I could really care less about my Blazer so it didn't matter.

Re: Rear Seat Area Speaker Enclosures

I bought those adapters and they still didn't give me enuff depth for the Pioneer 6x9s I was trying to install in there. I can look at the metal you are talking about Mattw and see how much more that will give me. The stock location and enclosure doesn't allow for anything decent. I was thinking about a custom bottom section of that stock interior plastic panel kinda like the ones on the Marlboro Syclone door panels. That wya I could install some nice MBQuart component speakers in that area instead of the traditional 6x9s. I'm looking for something different - anybody good at making custom fiberglass enclosures that wants to try this for me?

And I tried my air mattress Jeff - it don't fit without some fighting with it.

If you were alone in there jumping up and down trying to get it to fit that is the problem.

You need a helper.

I have pioneer 4 way 6x9s in the back of my truck. Although not by much, they did fit with an adaptor. The adaptor is pretty nice and indistinct looking. If I can get picture before you figure out a solution, I will get it to you.

I have Infiniti Kappa Perfects in mine, they sounds pretty good. If you are a real audiophile it would be better to put in some 6.5" component speakers in there with a custom mount.

I'd say focus on the front stage first though with some better dash speakers and kickpanels

what ones fit as i want to get some better sound as well, while not messing with the stock covers.

Re: Rear Seat Area Speaker Enclosures

Well i have some kenwood 4 ways also and they need about an inch or so spacer to fit right.

Ive looked on ebay and such and never seen a 6x9 spacer, whee can i pick up a set of these at?

Well after a couple hours of searching the net i found these that look like they will do the trick and not look to bad once installed. may need to paint them for a better match, but they give about a in more room which will allow almost all aftermarket speakers to fit.

www.bestkits.com is where i found them and the price seem decent. I think i may order a set and see how they work out.

Heres a pic of them. If anybody has used these before please share your feedback.

Yes I have those andn they are ok just dont tighten the screws TO tight or the adapter panel will break (trust me I know). I had Alpine 6X9's in the stock panel that just barely fit then went to this panel with a 1/4 plexiglas mount and Polk 6.5's that sound a LOT better.

These are what I have and they look and fit pretty good considering the huge increase in quality sound you get from the speakers you can now fit in the stock location. I am very happy with my speaker and subwoofer combination and the look of everything. The 50 disc changer may need to go though, so I can move the battery there. I second the comment about not tightening the screws too much. They protect the speakers pretty well also.

MaiTai and Beavis - can you guys send me pics of what custom pods you made to mount the 8" subs and tweets (MaiTai) and the 6.5"s (Beavis). I wanna see what they look like. Thanx.

Re: Rear Seat Area Speaker Enclosures

Any 2-way 6X9 will fit flush in the factory spot. A 3-ways to deep. I personally like the idea of a 8 and tweets or a 61/2 and tweet combo.
