cladding rivet

its gonna be time to put the sy back together in a few weeks. i remember a whiile back there was a post on part numbers from autofasco. who has the split rivets. i did a search and didnt find the part numbers. i talked to the guy a while back, but he didnt know which ones i need. can anybody help me out. thank

2 packs RV117 and 1 pack RV118 does the entire truck.

if you are doing the whole truck, just get 2 packs of each so you'll have plenty of extra.....remember to keep the front bumper cladding o-rings... you'll know what im talking about when you pop the bumper off the support.

And my rear bumper had the plastic O-rings, front bumper did not.
Looks like I'm goin lookin for more of those,

maybe home depot or a nut and bolt place. im thinking maybe something like a nylon washer or something in those lines. im taking a guess at it i dont know wht they look like, but ill soon find out

yeah jas... they are just standard plastic o-rings, im sure you could find them at any hardware store.


i might call autofastco and see if they would be willing to advertise on here...i know they get a good amount of business from syty owners, it would only benefit them to advertise and everyone else to get rivets...

I'd like to cold cock the idiots who made the decision to use those rivets. I have'nt gotten one to drill out right yet. I think on the ones under the bottom piece will get a dose of the grinder instead of the drill. I will definately be replacing with plastic ones.

mine came out easy. i took the die grinder and shaved off the nipple coming out the middle of the rivet. then i got a small punch.put it right in the middle of the rivet and tapped out the center, then drilled the washer part and they came right out. only one or two were a pain. the rest were fine. DONT grind them for a long time. if you do you will melt the plastic bracket that holds the cladding on. grind a bit off at a time then swap to the next one while the first one cools down and so on.

I'm trying to figure out which rivet tool to buy, which one are you guys having good luck with I see there's two styles?

Basically is the smaller handheld one going to be too much work or should I get the two handed version?

Those are both nice looking tools. The double handle one will pull up to 3/8" rivets. I didn't know they go that big. I have a double handle from Harbor Freight. It's a POS. The shanks jam in it every other rivet. And the truck has to be pretty far off the ground for clearance with the double handle. On one project, I borrowed an air-powered gun from the shop I use for my sailboat rigging. (Lots and lots of 1/4" rivets in sailboat masts). That was the best solution I've used.

What ever tool you use, be sure that you don't gouge the new paint when the rivet 'pops' and the gun jumps.

I have had the plastic rivets for a few years, and just need the disk/tabs for the doors and bed, and some o-rings I guess.

Same here, I just pulled all the cladding and bumper covers off, and I didn't have any O-rings anywhere. Nothing appeared to have been removed previously.

My front bumper had these white o-ring spacers on the rivets that were between the cladding and support. Almost like a buffer to keep the bumper from gouging into the support. Cladding had never previously been off my truck.

Might have been something on earlier VIN trucks?
