good run with boosted Mazda

It was a (relatively) cold Florida evening. I was on my way home from helping out with a friend's car, with about 75 lbs of tools in the Sy. I see an orange turbo Mazdaspeed Protege pulling out to get on the long empty two lane road I'm on. I slow down enough to make it obvious I'm waiting for him. Those cars are very slow, but I haven't had a kill for a while, and my suspension is broken so I'll take anything I can get. He gets next to me, and I notice he has a passenger, and is not about to take off without warning, or do a ricer flybye. So we slow down to about 25, I give him a lurch to encourage him to take off, and he does. I stomp it, and expect to humiliate the guy, as my truck dowshifts to 2nd. To my suprise, we are neck to neck all through second gear. Now I'm starting to worry. This guy's obviously boosted, and not just boosted the way other Speed Proteges are boosted, turning a patheticly slow car into one with average acceleration. This guy's fast. I stomp it as hard as I can in 3rd, and to my suprise and relief, I pull hard and gain back the 1-2 inches he somehow got on me. Now we're side by side, and both pulling very hard up to 90 mph where I let off. We both make a U-turn and he admits that he has some serious "work done". I am very impressed with the nice looking car and how good it ran. He's obviously proud of holding off a Syclone, even if it's stock. Good race. It's nice to see less rice and more power. Mazda rocks.

Nice story. I keep seeing a Mazdaspeed Miata around me, but he won't race me. Even in the Omni :rotf:

Re: good run with boosted Mazda

I hate to say this but the Mazdaspeed MX-5 (Miata) is slow. They are gorgeous looking (to me) and the handling is simply mindblowing. But the turbo is laggy, and it only makes 178 horsepower. It'd be lucky to run a 15 flat. That's not acceptable in a turbo Miata. They did not want to compromise the perfect balance of the car, so they underpowered it, and the there is noticeable lag, the SRT-4 smokes it. Unlike the new Mazdaspeed 6, which is a total animal (14.0 in the quarter in a heavy luxurious car). Or the new turbo Mazdaspeed 3, 263 hp in a light car. No lag whatsoever.

LOL :rotf:
Hey, the 93-95 RX-7 has an intercooler the size of a book but runs 4.9 to 60 and 13.5 in the 1/4 @100! Not exactly Syclone worthy but much better than the boosted Miata. Rotary Power!!

SyTyless......for now!
Re: good run with boosted Mazda

Nice kill! The Miatas in general are nice cars, this girl in my auto class has a '96 M-Edition, and its a slick little droptop. Of course, there are faster machines, (My auto teacher has an 03 S2K as a DD), but the Miatas have great handling. IMO, I'd rather have a Sky Redline tho.:turbo:

He must have had some serious work done to keep up with you. I played with one with my Sy and I just had an intake and chip (on 17lbs) and just destroyed the guy from a 30 roll. Nice kill.

You know what they say:

"Mazda rotary. 60% of the time, they work 100% of the time"
