so everything has been lost.. all pics, all data, the works.

hardware failure and poor administration are to blame..

I would have lost the hosting anyway once i found a new job, but i guess it decided it wanted to go sooner.

I'm going to keep trying to figure out a way to at least copy data from it, but because it was raid 0 the data can't exist unless both of the drives are good, one goes bad, all data is lost...

bartpe is your friend.. I've been able to to pull data from dead hdds on multiple occasions.
hope you can get another one going everyone loved the upload feaature and I loved the gallery shit. Good luck with the job search too it's a bitch out there in the technology world

yeah, I should have backed everything up as well..

I have a few apps I'm going to try to recover data with, but no promises any of them work..

as for bringing it back, its possible... but as soon as I leave here my free hosting ends, so who knows how long it'll actually last..

as for the job stuff, there is stuff out there.. but to make decent money you apparently have to be an expert in everything at once.. no idea how people do it.

I have used Easy Recovery Pro recently with great results.

Not sure how it handles Raid0 though.

If it was a hardware failure in the drive itself you are pretty much screwed.

All my stuff is backed up I just don't have anywhere else to host it at this time.

Maybe someone could set up a paypal account that everyone can donate too, then pay for hosting with GoDaddy or something. Someone can set up the gallery, uploader, etc. With 15+ people all pitching in a little, it'd be super cheap for crazy amounts of storage and bandwidth... Make it the official SyTy Multimedia Dumping Ground or something.

Whoever wants hosting, pitches in to paypal and they get access to the dumping ground.

GoDaddy (or whoever) provides the support and there's less fear of crashing.

Just an idea....

I'm a reseller for godaddy, I did it basically to get wholesale rates to myself and a couple companies that I was part owner in - I haven't checked prices lately, but when I set it up I set the prices to be lower than anyone else, I don't really advertisei t or do it as a business but if you want to check it out it is

not in the cpu biz but i thought the purpose of raid was so if one failed you had a mirror image on the other drive so you could keep going without a blip.

might have been my cache but last night my home cpu showed my signature pics viewing this bbs. those pics come from nesyty.com.

there are different types of raid, and yes that is the main purpose of raid.. unfortunately when the server was originally setup it was configured wrong.. I was at college and didn't notice until it was sorta to late.. and then i plum forgot to throw in another hd to back all the data up to. :tdown:

If he cant host it I am willing to do so for free. My server will be up in about a month. My only request would be that you provide the HDD that you want the storage on. The server is running Red Hat, so you could just use WebMin to manage it.

Any luck trying to figure a way to get a copy of the data from the drives and maybe bring it back from the dead? I (and others) really miss this awsome picture server you had going. I wouldn't mind chipping in some $$ to get it going again. The question is would other members/users of this be willing to pay a little to get it going and keep it going?

The RAID array is a manner in which you can make many smaller hard drives look and act like one large drive. Its relatively cheap to toss multiple inexpensive smaller drives together and make one large storage capacity with RAID . Redundant data can be one benefit if you set the array up to take advantage of the cheap capacity. If you have a wild streak you can set em up to just look like one big drive. Bad thing about cheaper smaller drives, that wild streak can bite.
