Tranny went

Let me start out by saying that i know absolutely nothing about transmissions. I got a Typhoon about a month or so ago and the tranny already went. I was backing out of by friend's driveway and it felt like reverse was "fading out". I put it in drive and it felt like I was riding the clutch really bad in a manual. When its completely cold, it shifts into first and reverse just like normal except when it is in drive it shifts late and wont make it past third. It shifts at around 3500-4000 rpms under very mild acceleration. After about a minute of driving if you stop and put it in reverse, it feels like it doesn't want to go. After about two minutes drive starts to feel like that and reverse is gone completely. Drive just fades away after that. Nothing ever felt like it broke, i think maybe something just wore out or clogged up? Does this sound like something I could do myself or has to be taken somwhere? It has a tranny cooler and temp gauge and I kept an eye on the fluid (No leaks and not low) and watched the temp constantly and it never did anything weird. I've never taken apart a tranny but I am very mechanically inclined and like to try everything myself if at all possible. Money is also an issue. I never really launched it or did anything stupid, but I only had it for a month and I don't know what the guy before me did to it. Odometer has 194000 miles so im sure its been rebuilt, but I don't know when or how many times. Did I leave anything out?

it's pooped, burnt up and dead. fixing the trans yourself is not a good idea. I've never seen that go good. you will spend more and end up with far less. let somebody with intimate knowledge handle this one for you.

Re: Tranny went

Remove it, box it up and ship it to one of the tranny experts on this board and be done.

Go local and fight it for a long time.

X2.... The locals are either going to give you a 700r4 sitting on their shelf or they're gonna want to build you a race trans. The second transmission my truck got was built bulletproof and you know what? the internals came through the side of the casing. The third is a factory built trans to specs the way it should be. You don't want to be doing this more than once.

I have this weird feeling that im going to get yelled at for asking this but..... How long would a stock 700r4 out of a blazer or something last? Just curious

There were a lot of changes made over the years. If your asking if you should just put a junkyard 700 in, you probably don't have the money to have it shipped off. If money is that much of an issue, don't be out boost launching it and doing 75 mph full throttle downshifts. If you have the original trans, hang onto it. Don't give it to the yard as a core.

Sorry guys, I do not know this shop or the work they do, they just have some good things to look for; you just have to sift through the sales pitches.

Re: Tranny went

Honestly, I was pretty careful with the thing. I have no idea what the guy before me did to it, though. I wouldn't be too hard on the truck beacause I dont have the money to fix it once a month. I can come up with the money for a nice tranny, but it may be a while. I was hoping to use it as a daily for about two months or so while I bag my 94 4dr blazer. I wanted to keep as much money as possible for that project. I knew the ty would need my time and money, but I didn't think it would be so soon.

Re: Tranny went

I hope im not posting where I shouldn't be, but since were on the tranny subject, the blazer shifts really, really hard out of first. Normal, everyday driving and it will chirp tires. It randomly started about six months ago and never got any worse, so I just did my best to get used to it. Where could I go to learn something about transmissions?

TV cable is not set correctly, the TV valve in the trans valvebody is stuck, or the boost assembly in the pump is stuck. It's not supposed to shift hard at minimum throttle. You'll break it if you keep driving it that way.
